ok bill im dieing to know what jig you made to cut that oring grove on the tabel saw? i love the design of it. thats trully an awesome design there. the nicest part is you dont have to worry about skimmate comming out the edges of the lid. i might have to do that to energys skimmer. i dont plan to have that tall of a cup on energys skimmer though.

I Used a table saw to cut the groove in the top its just a circle of 1/2 , Its like 17.5 od and 15.5 Id ring with a groove glude to th etop plate .
Scott said I should use things in my pics for size referance , so here it goes .

HOLY CRAP! I realized it would be big from the first picture of it but WOW! That's friggen crazy! That can't seriously be a 2 liter bottle can it? :eek1:

What is the volume of the cup? It must be 5 gallons or better.

so its dr pepper now hey? ha ha ha ha ha thats trully awesome work bill.
by the way my 6" tube showed up on friday for my calcium reactor. 12 feet of acrylic tube smashes up real nice when its drove over repeatedly with the delivery truck! or may be the forklift. so now im sitting here with no tube again! man i hate ups!!! and fed ex too!!!

now this is super funny!!! if you look at the picture it looks like your building a fish tank with a center overflow box in it. ha ha ha ha
hey it could be a sea horse tank or pipe fish tank there.

Dont try this at home , Here the jig for making the oring groove on th eoutside of a circle , this is befor the center is cut out .
I hate ups too , Will they send you a replacement ? Or do you have to go throuh all that claim crap ?

ya he went with the small 6" riser tube.
you never know he might need to go to 7" or 8" with 2 dart needle wheels and 2 air pumps on there. that 6" might only be good for the one dart pump. we will just ahve to see how it oges at start up.
hey bill when it comes time to break in king kong there you might want to dump 2 gallons of skimmate down the riser tube to break it in real quick. it works great and the skimmer should continue to produce skimmate after its pushed out all the other skimmate you dumped in. just dont start the recirculating pump when you do it. wouldnt want the super saturated skimmate to end up in the tank.

Wow I never really noticed how bad I suck at taking pictures . Thi sis bad .

well if work gets me that load down your way i will bring the camera and we can take some pics of you standing next to king kong there. then people will realize that this skimmer is bigger than a 55g barrel or most garbabe cans. i figure it will take about 120 gallons to fill king kong. that depends on the cone though. there is extra there too.

Ill glue the main tube on tommarow to the base , I would do it tonight but I need th ekids nextdoor to help me lift it . Hopefully Ill have this thing done by the middle of the week and running , My tank looks like crap rite now , I thinl Iam exceeding the capacity of the rk3 on my system , I just added baout ten new fish and the smallest one is 7 inches

just for size comparison. in one of the top down pics you can see the dogs tail on the lowe left side of the pic. that dog is not that small. that skimmer is just that big!!! but the way it looks in the picture is that the dog got squashed under the skimmer! until you notice the little bit of counter top on the edge of the picture.

bill that plumbing worked out better than i expected. i love the intakes on that thing. this way if air bubbles do get introduced to the skimmer from the feed pipe it will get chopped up in the needle wheel and made smaller. very nice work bill. cant wait to lust over that skimmer in person. it just makes me lauge every time i think about what your girlfriend said about that tube.

but its also a sad day for me. i just realized that my entire system volume can fit inside king kong there. :(

Bill, I must say that is one cool jig. I never thought of doing it that way. Where did you get the gasket material? Does it come in a roll? How do you make the joint in the gasket?

ouch!
i hope there as friendly as the huge angle in the 600g tank. i still love that fish the most of all the fish you have in the system. he is just so friendly. i never thought a fish would like to get petted like a dog.

I think doing th eplumbing like that will make a big diffrence , There would be way too much turbulance If I added the water at the top of the skimmer lik ea deltec , This way It doesnt matter how much you add and dont add the pumps still get what they want , Be it recurculated water or raw water . Iam going to add a 1.5 Inch George fischer flowmeter on the inlet so I can see how much flow itr can handle , I think around 1500-2000 gallons an hour is a good staring point .

If your talking about the on on the left top than that is where the tank water will enter . It then goes to the needle wheels and mixes with recuriclate water from th eskimmer base .

I watched the ups truck pull away from my shop once with the back door opean a just drodding boxes all over the strret , what a mess .
Thats whay we only ship fedex at work , There not much better thou .
The gasket id 1/8 inch silicone oring , It is sold by th efoot or in diffrent sizes I use sperglue to holdit tohether afetr cutting it , you need a special jig to cut it square thou .
