my diy needle wheel dart pump

keep in mind that my riser is 6" x 24' and it is barely adequate with significantly less air flow than what you guys are building. That was the point of my previous post. Bill's skimmer could fill a cubicle with foam in a matter of minutes and I would seriously consider some kind of mod maybe based on the Tunze collection system to go directly to a floor or sink drain.

you guys may think I am nuts, but even with my angle cut riser the foam is overwhelming the collection cup. Without the angle cut I am positive I would get about half the skimmate because the foam would hit the top of the collection cup straight on and collapse back into the riser.

That's a healthy head of foam. :) How long did you run that thing before those final foam pictures and what did you throw in there (Is it dirty tank water, tank water with skimmate added, or is it newly mixed RO/DI saltwater?)

Peace,
John

first there was the "bubble-peasant"

Seriously, no kidding! Bill is definitely worthy of Bubble God status and I think maybe an entire conference devoted to giving him credit and a medal for innovative design and execution. And maybe a plaque for best girlfriend/car combo too. And we should give Scott a chocolate bar for his help of course! (j/k) ;)

i guess you just got demoted to the back of the needle wheel list.
that list is a scroll about 20 ft long.

aw man! for a little joke? that's tight man. I was going to send you a hooker but I guess I'll have to keep her for myself! :p

Jnarowe is right with much more air comming from the air pump, forget the neck alltogether you just biuld the cup around the cylinder. 1 minite of foam did i say wow allready? WOW! :eek1:

Hey Bill, expect a call from mother nature, she is having trouble keeping the caribbean clean, you know sewage run off and what not. I told her you could build a skimmer on a smaller scale than yours, have it cleaned up in no time :)
Seriously though, that is a work of art, excellent craftsmanship.

I think Bill constructed a beautiful skimmer, but I have to really give it to Scott for really going out there and starting this whole DIY NW on massive skimmers.

I'm sure we've all wondered/dreamed what a big *** needlewheel would be like, but certainly we didn't have the initiative or the tools/skills to actually go and do it.

So, now you know now b/c of Scott. Scott, I knew you would be an innovator when I first saw your thermoformed cones and twist locks! :) Keep up the good work man!

Peace,
John

Sir, if you pull that off, you will have outdone yourself once again and will truly have turned the aquarium world on its head!

Of course, I'll certainly have to see it to believe it, I'm really not sure how you are going to pull it off! :eek1:
