But... you started the thread.

ya but the whole point of this thread is diying a dart needlewheel into a skimmer. and bill is the master at diy. so i feel this is his thread now. he is much better than i am at building stuff. his entire system is custom built by him. :D

no wonder you havent posted any pics until now. you must have been working on that area of the fish room all night last night and most of today! wow does that look different. i thought you would have left the catwalk over to the cup so you could clean it easy. but i also se why you took it out. its looks alot easer to get around the skimmer for adjustments. thats amazing work there bill. that cup looks like sludge from the treatment plant in there! and i know you said you had cleaned the cup earler so that must be just from the last few hours. now i cant wait to come down there and take some more pics. i hope you neworder of fish showes up before i come down. amazing job bill. energy is going to flip a lid when he sees that baby and hears how its doing. i will have to remember to bring my watt meter down with me. then we can see what its doing for wattage. but i know its a boat load less than the rk2.

I can't get enough of this stuff. Looks great. Although looking around your fish room's mess makes me feel so much better about mine

This has gone way above and beyond the DIY stuff. Now I am just itching away waiting to get a taste of one of these babies can do. My best guess is that in comparision to my current skimmer it will blow it out of the water........:D

Bill, first of all CONGRATS!

That mess is sheer art...I think the fire marshall may want to talk to you about your wiring!:eek1:

Have you dropped a cleaning magnet into the lower chamber yet??? I have been using mine regularly and even up the riser. It saves a boatload of time.

Is there any part of that skimmer that you think you can patent?

I'll bet if anything is patentable, then Bubble King already has.

Bill, I, for some reason, expected you to be a lot older. :D

When I was younger I remember people were surprised or didn't believe that I owned a company. I am 40 now and the effect has "worn off". All it takes is initiative and drive, and clearly Bill has those nailed down!:D

you really should hide the vasilne jar , thats kinda personal . What happens in Scotts shops shpuld stay in Scotts shop :D :D :D :D

Hahahahahhahaa! Oh man, it's been awhile since I laughed so hard from a reefcentral post!

You aren't feeding the pumps with the air pump now are you?

Very impressive to say the least, your tank will definitely benefit from that in the years to come. :)

Peace,
John H.

BTW, I take back what I said about the height of the riser. In these pics the angle is different and I can see there is a lot more room above the riser than I thought.

Ditto, I thought he be at least in his 50s. Accomplished Business man, master craftsman, big ol toys... hard work and a great country cant beat it.

Where do you get those bulkhead fitting for the heaters on that sump?

Iam 30 , I feel old . We made a new type of needle wheel tonight , it has pve needles and weird random pattern . should work well . we will see

so you must be shooting for 450-500 cfh to the skimmer? or did you loose some more pins again? i just got my pvc rod yesterday so im planning on trying to get a couple of wheels done next week some time. but i would like to see your pattern up and running before i start on the new ones.

I thought Don King was dead!

well just give him a minute to straighten them out before you make smart comments. if anyone wants the perfect skimmer its bill. but there might be some benifit to the pins being like that too. you dont know until you try and i dont see anyone else trying to build one. so please refrain form the smart comments like this. it makes people not want to share there work on the thread. this is an informational thread. not a place to critisize and put down the work of someone.

if you dont know it the rod he is using comes in a roll about 150 ft long and is not perfectly straight. so to make them straight you need to place them in the wheel and then straighten them out after. but i feel he should run it the way it is and see if there is a benifit to the random way the pins are set. it might make even smaller bubbles or might be able to take more air before shutting down.

thats just my two cents worth.

You know Scott I think you have a problem with me so I will not post here anymore. It was just a joke because it looked like Don King's hair to me.

Sorry Bill if I offended you. I will keep watching your work as I find it fascinating and I hope to employ some of the innovations you guys have developed.

Bill, have you had any balancing issues when creating your needle wheels? I don't exactly have a great tool crib in the garage as you do so I always assumed something like this was not feasible. But if that new needlewheel of yours works, it could give all us "small" shop guys a chance at creating a great DIY pump.

Great thread, thanks for sharing. Your tank has been a favorite of mine for quite sometime now.
