Could you post some pics of you skimmer too ? Hows it working for you ?
Do you like it ?

Bill, I have a BK400 EXT... Here is a thread that I started, has some pics in it, if you need any other shots let me know...

Thats a great thread , lots of info . would it be possibe to dend a picture of what the air intake looks like ,mainly how it enters to tube and what it looks liek inside . What is red tube from the pump housing to the motor for ? Pressure equalization maybe ?
Thansk again for the help .

thanks for those pics travis. i see they changed there design again. they got rid of the expensive titanium pins. i didnt think they made any difference anyways. its all in the design not the materal use to build them.

one of these days i will get out your way to see your tank. the wife keeps bugging me to take the trip to the boondocks of south dakota. lol hope to see you when eric borneman comes to the club and speaks. it should be an awesome event.

Nice picture , could you send one from the top down .

Thanks

FWIW, the part of the impeller that these screw on to does have an additional cone tip that, when screwed into the NW, creates a full cone.

Here is the old titanium NW.

travis have you tried all the different needle wheels on the skimmer? if you have is there a huge difference in performance between the 4 wheels? have you checked the wattage of the pump with the 4 different wheel. now that i see you hae different wheels for it i really need ot get out there and check that bad boy out.

Spazz , Looking at the picture of the Bk needle wheel , It would be really easy to make amold and cast these things .

This is the 400 internal. It really is a great skimmer. The most stable and consistent skimmer I've ever run (but I'm mostly used to becketts, which are far from stable anyways). It really is dead silent and very powerful. I do have 2 complaints. The silencer can not be disassembled for cleaning or replacing the floss. After only a couple months, the floss had already become clogged and I had to clean it with RO water. My other complaint is that the RD pump nozzle (internal skimmers only) does not work as advertised. You are supposed to get the same air flow with it screwed all the way in (less water flow) or screwed all the way out (more water flow) but this does not appear to be the case. I seem to get a much denser column of bubbles by completely removing the nozzle altogether, but then there is a lot of water flow so it may just be an illusion caused by increased turbulence moving the bubbles around. One day when spazz makes it down here he can bring his air pump and we can find out for sure. Other than those 2 small complaints, I would say it is a great skimmer. Workmanship is also top notch. Is it worth the $$? Well, that can only be answered on an individual basis.:)

I was going to use a 6 inch riser tube , I have some 18 inch tube to make acup with and Bob at rk2 Is going to hook me up with the cone .
Think 6 inch is enough ?

i didnt know they were spares, i thought they sent different sized NW for fine tuning the skimmer.

Tim

There are 2 extras. One has a 1mm larger diameter than the one in the pump and the other has a 1mm smaller diameter. The difference in size is because some pumps have had startup problems on US frequency. The different sizes of NW's is supposed to help if I run into startup problems. I have never had any problems so haven't seen the need to switch them.

i agree but we would have to find a company to run the mold through there machine. i have had talks with a couple of molding compannys and they said huge money foe the mold to do it and big numbers when its run through the injection molding machine.
plus if you sold these im sure sequence wold void the warantee of every pump that has that needle wheel in it. thee trying to make there own version of the needle wheel. and im sure they dont want compition on it.

I will let asnatlas be responsible for the air intake pic as his is not up and running yet.:D The red tube is called the "anti-calcium bypass". It works by constantly lubricating the impeller area with water to prevent calcium deposits due to the heat friction.

The new NW's are made out of POM. They are supposed to draw more air and water with less electrical consumption due to the lighter material. You know you are welcome to see my tank and skimmer any time.:) Unfortunately, I will not be up to see Borneman since I will be seeing him a few weeks later at IMAC.

I have not tried the different wheels. I don't have an air flow meter or watt meter to test. When you make it down we can sure play with all the wheels and see what the differences are.:)
