I have not tried the different wheels. I don't have an air flow meter or watt meter to test. When you make it down we can sure play with all the wheels and see what the differences are.:)

well one of these days we have to make it out there. it has to be soon though. the son starts baseball season next month and i try to never miss a game. when i do come out i will make sure and bring a few things for testing. if anything it will reconfirm there numbers and make there point even better that its a very effecient skimmer in its design. i have always loved the bubble kings. but there so expensive.

ok bill thats a 1000 watts higher than i expected it to be! holly crap that thing is a power hog. but your new one will be about 350% more effecient. and give you more air to the skimmer but i dont think the skimmer will need it.
by the way you might want to add a set of flanges between the main body and the cone so if you do need to expand the hight of the skimmer you can do it with out cutting it apart. plus it makes cleaning it easer.
hey if you decide to sell that monster rk2 let me know i might have a home for it.

Thats nice , Real nice . Is the main part built up or is it a single peice ?

thats 3 pieces that were sandwitched together and then the male star of the twist lock goes on the riser tube.

Ive been woeking on the flange tonight , Its abig one 28 inchs od . With a 1/4 inch oring groove . Got it done in one shot thankheaven , 3/4 inch acryic isnt the cheapest thing in the world .
Afetr I get this thing done I would be willing to part with my RK2 .
Its one well built skimmer , but it sucks the juice .

well if the aquarium would buy it i would convert it over to a needle wheel style of skimmer. it wouldnt take much to do it but it might be a little ugly when its done. thewy need a huge skimmer for there quarinteen system. its 5000g for sharks. and when there sting rays get pregnant they put them in there for birthing.

bill you might want to think about using mdf for testing all your programs out before cutting them in acrylic. that way if you mess up a line here or there it wont cost you the next payment on the sports car. lol

well i would get a pump that puts out at least 3 cfm. and these pumps come from the same company that makes sweetwater pumps. but i have seen them for 20-40 $ cheaper than the seweetwater brand. same pumps different name. i think these pump comes under about 5-6 differnet names.

bill just dont get a pump thats over 250 scfh. i think it would be way too much and would just be a waist of money. i think 180-200 scfh would be perfect for these dart needle wheels.

so post a pic of that flange. i couldnt even get that on my cnc router. i can only do 24" wide sheets. my next router will be 4ft x 8 ft. lol im glad your getting a cone from that guy. i wont have a mold for another 4 weks and then need to up grade my heaters for that size cone. so it might be 3 months before i get one made.
how thick is that tube? 3/8"??? it looks real thick.

Its half inch thick , I picked up a bunch of them form a pharmcutical auction , They were part of a gel filtration system . I also got a 6ft by 6 foot tube , Its 2 inch thick acrylic made by reynolds . Not sure what to do with it yet , Tank fo rthe next house I think .

Ive been using mdf , but sometime you make a mistake in the final part .You know how that goes , You shoud make you next cnc router its not that hard . Can you tig weld ? If not I could help you with the frame .

Only an other reefer would get excited over a peice of plastice tube .
Try and explain this to someone out side our hobbie annd they would think we are crazy .

Spazz , what size cones do you make now ?

i can make up to 12" cones. but the next mold will do up to 22" im hoping. it all depends on the finnished product i get from the machine shop.
as far as building a cnc i would rather buy a factory built one that has a super strong bridge across it. and want the guarintee too. i know i could build my own but i dont have time for it either. i have 12 yrs in metal fab in profesional shops over the years and hate it now. i only do metal work if its for the kicks of it.
this was my last metal project. it should have been scraped but i felt sorry for it and took it home.
