My DIY skimmer build, tips?

I think using your own design is really interesting. Once I get my tank together, I would love to make my own skimmer. Thank you for posting your project

No problem, yea I used the logic of the popular high end design, without all the cool internals that were mainly "make it look high tech" designs LOL

if you want some more insight on the main chamber on how it "works" give me a PM when youre ready to make it.

i swear this skimmer only cost me roughly 30$ including silicon and powerhead LOL

One of the better performing skimmers i have seen used a 5gal bucket and a wood airstone. Good work. The silicone might not last very long but who cares you still get internet points.

I figured as much, but i did a silicone seal inside and out, and the 160 gph petco powerhead wont be busting any seams anytime soon LOL

yea mine is basically an airstone internal chamber with a small powerhead to move water in and out.

YAY INTERNET POINTS!!!!

Hey here is an idea .... What about attempting to creat some type of auto flush function. I know it's extreme, but you look like you have the DIY stuff down.

hmmm i could create a bypass on the output and send it up and have a tube that outputs it...

sounds interesting! Ill give it a whirl soon!
