My elegance experience

Hello all,
I just recently purchased an elegance coral and have been keeping a close eye on it. I know of the rumors and bad experiences that a lot of people have had with them and so I thought maybe this could help. I posted the original on a different site but I had a few suggestions to post it here so I figured if I could even help 1 person with an elegance it would be worth it. I am by no means an expert, I am just an amateur 24 year old reefer that has had a very good experience with my elegance so far. Ok after bringing the elegance home and acclimating it for 3 hours or so I placed it in the bottom of my tank in a tupperware container. I chose to use a tupperware container because it shielded the elegance a little from the current, it also allowed me to move it around with touching the coral which is important when trying to find a good area with the right amount of light, and it also allowed the elegance to expand on the sand I placed in the container and the plastic which is a lot more smoother than any rock surface. Ok so the place where I initially placed the Elegance was pretty close to being under one of my MH's. After about 3 hours under the light it looked like this:

I was not happy with its overall appearance so I moved the coral away from the lights and towards the lowest flow/lighted area in the tank i have. This still isnt the most dimmest of areas but it certainly wasnt like being right underneath the MH. This is what it looked like after another hour moved away from the MH:

Another hour:

So I felt as if its expansion was due to the reduction in lighting it was receiving. Remember I am no expert but this is what I witnessed. I also rearranged the rocks a bit to cut down on the flow in this part of the tank but not too much where detritus would build up all over because my tank is bare bottom. I continued to check on it at hour intervals.

To give ya an idea of my tank heres a few pics. Sorry Im not a great photographer.

As you can see in the one picture its by far not dim in the corner that it is in, I just think there may be a fine line between too much light and too little. Least thats my opinion. After a while being in the same spot I can now say that tomorrow I need to buy a bigger tupperware container...;)

It has been a very short thread in terms of the original post but I think its just more to the point. Any advice/suggestions/comments are always appreciated :)

Oh you all may wonder what is up with the bottle remainders in the tank. I replumbed the tank and ended up with way more flow than before. The clams didnt like it all so I used the leftovers to make shields from the current for them. I will most likely redo the rocks or figure out another solution but for now im going to leave them because I dont want to disturb the tank any more for a while.

So all these picks are from the first day? And you moved the coral three times? And then stuck it up in the rockwork? Is that what pictures 5 and 6 are?? Am I the only one confused?

I only moved the elegance once in a week and its still in the same place at the end of the tank in the tupperware. The coral in the rockwork is a frogspawn. I was just showing what the tank looks like. The elegance isnt even in pic 5 and 6. Id link you the original thread as its more elaborate and more like a timeline but I dont know if I can link to other forums. I just threw this together hoping to show from what I saw one of the biggest issues with elegances is lighting and how 6 inches is the difference between being retracted and not so happy under the MH bulb and fully expanded. I found it kinda interesting, when compared to that frogspawn who is in the middle of the tank almost right under a MH bulb and is thriving. I didnt have the time this evening since I have my daughter tearing up the house to completely detail everything as well as it should have been, for this I apologize and Ill try and edit and improve it once she goes to bed.

No its fine I was just trying to follow it and was confused I appreciate you sharing with us. More pics when possible please. = ) The Elegance is my holy grail.

If the pics are all from the first day, the reason it was closed up initially might be cause it was
adjusting to the tank and not so much the intensity of the mh lighting.
But a newly introduced one might just have needed time to adjust to the lighting.
My elegances seem to inflate more under bright lighting.
Good luck with yours

Ok, she just fell asleep. Ya sorry I thought I included most of the info but I definetly missed alot. I wish I coulda just copy/pasted lol. I can no longer edit it so I guess Ill try my best to clarify. The first day in the tank I didnt have any lights on at all to let it acclimate to the tank. The next day I only turned on the VHO's. Then the 3rd day I turned on the MH's and thats when it retracted after 3 hours being underneath the bulb. It may have not hurt it and just needed to adjust or it may have hurt it if left there. I didnt want to gamble though so I moved it away from the bulb 6 inches or so the right so it wasnt receiving as much light from the MH. Thats when it expanded the most after I moved it. The top for the tank is only 4 feet long because I had a 75g and then I got the new tank for fathers day and havent had a chance to finish the stand/canopy. So it leaves a less intense area at the far left/right of the tank.It seems as each day passes though it is starting to like the more intense lighting so Im very slowly moving it inward in hopes that if it wasnt fond of the intensity, it soon will be. Since I am by no means an expert on elegances I just thought if anyone was having a similar experience that maybe this could possibly help.
