My experiences with treating fish

We've all been in that situation where your most prized fish comes down with something and it seems that there is little you can do to help. I've lost countless fish do to my lack of knowledge to help them.

This is a very basic treatment for anything bacterial I've found to work with a 70-100% success rate.

The trick is to be able to catch the symptoms of a sick fish early. Usually the fish will have white stringy poop.

If my fish stops feeding and is acting listless I will do my best to treat this fish in a seperate QT tank.

Here is what you'll need:
QT tank
Furazone Light(I've found Furazone green to be to strong even though many tell me you can't really overdose this stuff.)
Good aeration
Large PVC piping or atleast something to hide in (no live rock or anything from your tank(it must be sterile)

Add water to QT tank but make sure you keep it as clean as possible meaning wash your hands well and rid soap residue as good as possible.
Add one capsule of furazone light per 5 gallons of water.
Aerate for atleast 3hrs or until mixed completely. Also check that the PH is equal to the water the fish came from. You can the water is clean when the bubbles from aeration are fizzing nicely.
Add hiding place carefully and make sure it's big enough to allow the fish to feel comfortable but still visible to check health.

Add fish to QT. I like to try and catch my fish will as little stress as possible. If you can transfer with a small plastic cup rather than netting. This way you don't take off the protective slime coat.

DO NOT feed for atleast a couple of days. This is important as when they are sick feeding them can have adverse effects.

I like to start feeding when the poop stops looking stringy and white.

I change water everyday to every other day depending on how clean the water stays.

When the fish looks happier and stops pooping white you can start feeding slowly.

In my experience I've been able to save expensive fish this way.
This also a practice to have when adding new fish to your tank.

Remember when you take a fish out of your tank and treat and then add them back your tankmates might not recognize them as friend. When I add my fish back to tank I like to put them in a stick on container with holes in it and let the fish acclimate back to tank and allow the other tankmates to get accustomed again to the fish.

Hope this helps!
