These are my last addition, I waited a while for them. :D
Sorry for the darker images but I took this while they were acclimating under actinic light only.

Reef safe butterflyfishes that I always wanted to have in my tank. :)

Why a Hawaiian Pyramid Butterfly fish of course! No fish is totally reef safe, but this is the most sure fire butterfly...more so than copper bands (my favorite fish).

Beautiful fish! How big are they?

Roughly 2.5" and trying to make up for it by eating a lot of food. :D

I really like them, Phyllis. They were left alone after a day of sorting out the pecking order and areas of influence on the reef... :D
Right now they are just a part of the gang and not newcomers.

Managed to snap a daytime shot as well.

do you have him with any established tangs? I think it would be awesome to have one or 2 of them, my powder blue is an old timer and the boss of his domain, wondering if I could get away with some, any thoughts? and how much did you pay for these bad boys?

Actually yes, I do have very much established surgeonfish,Ctenochaetus striatus(bristletoothed tang). He's currently ignoring both of this butterflyfishes, thankfully. There was some initial chasing and territorial disputes but lasted only a day or two and no damages were observed.

I'm not sure how Acanthurid will react to any new addition, so I can;t comment on that but something tells me that it would probably give them some trouble. At least in the beginning. ;)
I must also add that I had more problems with the little 3" cherub angelfish accepting these two. All is well now, though.

As far as price, I had some trade-ins with the store but believe they were listed roughly at $50.00.

Gorgeous..... I always wanted one of these reef safer butterfly fishes in one of my tanks--never got so lucky, but you have inspired me on my next tank...!

Isn't there another very similiar Pyramid B-fly that is much more drab in coloration...?

Hi Todd,

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, these doctors here been killing me for a week...

Anyways, I'm not sure about the other, more drab looking Pyramid butterlflies as I never seen them.

So far, these two been doing OK but I noticed that one of them have bite marks on the fins. Looks to be work of one my tangs. Time for them to go back to the store, I think.

I managed to take a better shot of one of them, so here it is. :D

The little angelfish is not following to say hello either, he intends to nip at the tail or fins, the bugger...

Man, oh, man, Gene, I feel for ya... I adore Centropyge pygmies, but they have always been so problematic in my tanks--picking at corals, or just plain disappearing... But they are so gorgeous and fun to watch... The Japanese Interupptus is the one I have always lusted after...

Poor little B-fly...!
