My first fish :)

Just put my first saltwater fish in my nano. My wife named him chuckles don't ask me why. Eventually this is going be an attempt at an sps tank. I'm going to go as minimal as possible on gear, without a sump I don't want to clutter the tank. Only running a heater and a powerhead. Also going to do twice weekly 1 or 1/2 gallon water changes. And I got the live rock from a friend who has a very established tank. Also took 5 gallons of his water and the rest is fresh saltwater

Possible issues tie into the possibility of the fish bringing in ich or some other disease. Honestly though if it does end up having something you can pull it, QT to treat and give the tank a fallow period.

Enjoy your first fish and hope he does well for you.

Oh yea I kind of figured since he is the only thing in the tank this tank would serve as a qt. Will ick get into live rock? Planned on grabbing another fish in about a week. Then one month from now my first frag!

Exciting! Nothing like setting up your first tank and getting your first fish. Good luck and keep us updated

Your risk is lower than most because of such a low fish load but it's a risk nonetheless. If you do get ick, then the tank will need to be fallow for about 11 weeks before adding any fish back to the nano. CUC and other inverts can introduce ick as well if they have been housed with it... but again, your risk is lower than most.

Tight lid cause those little guys are jumpers.

Enjoy the new addition!

It's the first fish and no coral. If anything happens you can use medication in this tank without worrying too much.
I just love how any exciting sharing post can be turned over by the polices here...

Much as I agree that he should enjoy his first fish and not worry too much I would never advocate medicating in a display tank. First fish or not many medications we give our fish can be harmful to the bacteria or inverts we keep and some are difficult to remove afterward.

...poor guy, came to share his excitement about his first fire fish and now is probably paranoid AF after reading all these posts. Lol.

A little paranoia can be good. I don't think all trees are really giant microphones the government uses to spy on us, just some of them. See? A healthy level of paranoia.

When I restarted about a year and a half ago I also skipped quarantine with my first fish.
It wend OK for the first 6 fish (ORA fridmani, mandarins & high fin gobies) but the percula I had left at the store for a month came in hot with a hefty load of ich.
Not that I lost a single fish to ich, but now the system has ich in it. It flares up for a month or two every time I add a new fish.

Ridding the system after ich is in it is a hassle and putting a sensitive fish (Regal Angel) or those with a special diet (mandarins, pipefish) in bare holing tanks during the 3 months fallow period may pose a greater risk to them than just letting them deal with the ich.
Also wives and parents usually frown upon a battery of treatment tanks + the required equipment in the living room and will surely complain about utility bills as high as the lease payments for a luxury car.

So trust me, it's best to never let it in in the first place because the plan of cleaning it up later may never happen...
