I got this Flasher Wrasse at Petco as McCosker's Wrasse but do not think this is a correct OD. Can anybody help? Is it a Carpenter's wrasse?

It's definitely not a McCosker's, since it has more than one dorsal filament. It looks like a Yellowfin Flasher (Paracheilinus flavianalis) based on its anal fin coloration.

That's a beautiful find from Petco. Congrats on your first Flasher. Do keep in mind you're more likely to see this guy flash when there are other Flashers around.

I got to get him in good shape and get a mirror to the tank and see if I can get him to flashes. Then I have better way to ID him. The hind third of the caudal fin is bluish black. The anal fin is not really yellow but a little darker. Of course he is stressed so all the colors are off make it difficult to ID.
I will see if I get better pictures over the next few weeks

The Petco here had two Thursday. I asked the salt water manager to order a few in for me. Both listed as McCosker’s so I just get one of the two. The other one is a young male and not as colorful. If it was of a different species I would have get both
