My First Fuge...

So I am moving over everything tomorrow to the 115. This will be my first sump and I made sure to leave some nice room for a fuge. The sump is about 50G, but I'm figuring only about 35 in total water volume with the way my baffles are set up and with some rock and sand in there. My question is, what do I need to put in the fuge to start off with? New sand? Old sand? How deep?

The setup is a flow through, so (from left to right) it's skimmer, fuge, return. I have some nice rock to be able to put in the fuge so the pods can grow and not be too much in the flow. Any suggestions?

Mine is a bb fuge. I have about 20lbs of LR rubble on the bottom w/ Chaeto sitting above it.

Any benefit or drawback to running a BB fuge? Interesting idea, but I've never heard of it.

benefit is you don't have to deal with sand beds and the associated long term problems. plenty of live rock will give you all the filtration you need. make sure if you go this route you pull the rock out every month and vac out the crud... helps to make a power assist suction using a powerhead as you probably won't be able to get a siphon going. it sounds harder than it is.
