i just bought a purple cap montipora and i need a little advice. i have a 10 gallon tank with 30watts of powercompact mini lighting. i have been keeping bubble and neon green candy cane coral with no problems. what is the best food for them? i have kent's chromaplex phytoplankton and i use their liquid calcium, iodine, strontium, and dKH buffer. im going to switch to their nano reef a and b when i finish the stuff i already have. im going to put it front and center on the sand where there is a lot of light. i paid $10 for a frag about 2.5" to 3" in diameter. let me know if i should do anything else

-Thank you

i dont think the monti will be very happy w/ 30w of pc lighting, but it may survive. i would also move it closer to the top as opposed to the sand.

it should grow as long as your flow is good. But like he said keep it to the top since compacts don't penetrate that far. Also I don't really believe in feeding corals except the excess food and poop.

there really isn't any type of coral except for gorgonians and some nonphotosynthetic corals out there that aren't carnivorous so your only polluting your tank with phyto !

Actually feeding live phyto will probably provide a food source for zooplankton in sand which will float up in water column at night and be consumed by SPS.
Kents phtyo is a ?? on usefulness. DT's maybe or home grown.
Agree with putting it directly under the PC and in good flow maybe consider lighting upgrade if growth &/or coloration are an issue.
Hope that helps

hey thanks for the info. im going to move it. i target feed all my coral, so im going to have to feed it marine snow. its that good???

in a tank that size i would be careful of overpoluting the water, plus nothing has showed coral target feeding helps, in the wild they don't have anyone shoving food at them. It's all in the water column
