That is a nicw start for a nano however you cant keep that fish in that tank it should have a 4' long tank minimum. It will get stressed and die in that small of a tank

I don't have any experience with tangs but when more people see this thread I think you're going to be maliciously attacked about putting that in there lol. But I mean the fish gets to a foot and a half or something so considering its going be about the size of your tank in atleast 2 of the dimensions I'd agree that it would die. But anyway, it looks nice, I get white stuff that looks like that in my 10g nano too, I don't think its an issue. I don't know what it is though.

Hey guys for the tang would it be fine for at least a month ? if not I'm sorry
and what about a tiny blue tang same thing as this guy i really wanted a tang but if its to much then i wont
any ideas as to what fish are good for this tank i have a yellow head goby with blue body and one maroon so far i think im done for a month on fish for the safety of the tank

Yeah I'm pretty sure that every type of tang gets enormous. And yeah it's fine for right now since its so small, but as soon as it gets a little bigger (I prolly wouldn't keep it for more than a month) you might just want to take it back to the fish store (I doubt they'd give you credit but its better than killing it) or sell/give it away to someone in your area. I'm not sure if the yellow head gobys get too big to be happy in 10g tank, I know they can get up to 5 or 6 inches, someone else might know more.

Yellow Head Jawfish are pretty sweet imo (not too expensive either). And I know that they work in a 10g tank. There are also a bunch of types of gobys that don't get big like that yellow head goby

Any tang (or other fish that get large) might be OK for a little while, but not for long. Consider returning it to the store and research fish that will thrive in a 10g. That tiny blue tang you are interested in is most likely a Blue Hippo Tang and get to over 12" long. What you see in the store's tanks are juvenile and sub-adult fish that are not finished growing. Rarely will you see an adult available at the store. And if they did, you'd need to be Donald Trump to afford it! :lmao:

The list isn't long, but there are some interesting fish; for the most part gobies - clown goby, Rainford's, Randall's shrimp goby; and smaller blennies.

Please, please do research on any species you are considering to see if it will do well in your set up. And try not to ignore what you see, they tank sizes that are given aren't arbitrary. Post fish you are interested in in the correct thread in the New to the Hobby forum and I would recommend Scott W. Michael's book Marine Fishes and The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Fenner. Maybe your local store has copies you can browse through as they are fairly expensive.

Continue to ask questions here! This place is an invaluable resource. I know that my tank wouldn't be a success without it!

Aha! I found the link I was looking for. This list is really nice for nano fish tanks because the guy who made lists actual size that you need, whereas a book/website will just give the suggested size (or claim that you need at least X amount of space).

Go down to section VII. Nano Fish Listed By Tank Size...and you can get some nice suggestions about what would fit.

I highly doubt that anemone is still alive and if it is it wont be for long. get it out of there along with the tang.

WoW thanks eamike261, That's some great info right there.

why should the anemone go ? is he sick he seems fine hes eating prawn shrimp and looking good i got him some Dr G's brine?

because nems need mature tanks (more than 6 months old) and need really intense lighting. as for getting fish you cant go wrong with a pair of clown fish!

Not to mention the fact that the anemone will outgrow the tank along with the clown it is hosting, and anemones produce so much waste it would be hard to keep the water conditions descent. He can go wrong with a pair of clownfish! He has a maroon in there that will easily outgrow a ten gallon tank.

my light is a 65 watts 50/50 6.5 watts per gallon is more then enough the guy seed and a whisper 40 is large to get the job done and not stir the sand up

watts per gallon doesnt mean anything any more, i has to do with par and lux. if a coral need 4000 lux to grow then that is what it is going to need. there is no such thing as watts per gallon in the wild so its not really a good measurement. power compacts arent that strong so if you have a deep tank it is going to be hard to get something to grow down there. if anything get a 2 bulb T5HO light. but 2 addicted is right the maroon and the nem are going to out grow the tank.

you also have to remember that the LFS are out to get money and will tell you almost anything to get you to buy their stuff. you should always research about what you want and see if your system is capable of keeping that animal.

now for the filter you have, does really nothing to keep the water clean. all your filter is really for is to put filter media in it and for water movement. what keeps the water clean is water changes and the live rock. you might want to get a power head or another filter for the tank so you have water movement because 20x turn over isnt that much. on my 20 gallon long i have 1000 gallons per hour (gph) so that means 50x turn over and it is mostly soft corals. on my 10 gallon i have 350 gph and that means 35x turn over and it is a mixed reef, you are probably not going to keep mushrooms only so start looking for a power head or another filter.

Did the guy at the store also tell you it was ok to keep a salfin tang in a ten gallon tank? If so I would not go back to that store.

Filter Whisper 40 up to 40 gallons 210 GPH

lighting its just a power compact for a 10 gallon i don't need to over do it with a million dollar light for pets sake

i am doing water changers every 3 days with saltwater from the store

the guy seed the fish both maroon and tang would be fine for at least a month or so the anemone would be good if i had any problems to just come back in and exchange them for something else full credit return the guy is a private owner and has been in the business for over 30 years its not a place where teens and stuff are nagging you, " do you need any help ?" just for commission

ok i guess you are going to be hard headed and not going to take any advise any of these people are giving you. so there is no point in asking any questions because you are just going to do what you want to do... BTW a 2 bulb T5HO fixture is like $50-$60 so i dont see why you think it is expensive...

you have a lot of research to do

sorry if i came off rude.

no just i am on a tight budget and i really got most the stuff free or very cheap the most i ever spent on this project was 25 dollars the most
