My first sandstorm.

I removed my fish and added sand to my tank and the sandstorm is still going strong 24 hours later. How long do these things normally last and should i have a powerhead or pump running at all? Fill me in Please.

They can last a couple of days before the tank is clear completely. I would turn of the powerheads and pump as sand can get into the impellar housing and cause damage. Also this will give the sand time to settle. You will get a slight kick up when you start the pumps back up but it shouldn't be to bad.

mine lasted about three days, i left the powerheads on, just keep changing ou filter media daily(i changed my filter sock 2 times a day, then a few days after the storm i cleaned all pumps and equip, then used a tukey blaster to blast dust off the rocks

Ok Mine lasted 1 night, and this was with southdown.

If you have a hang on filter, take some of your girls pantyhose and take the foot part. Cut it off and slide your filter sponge with carbon into it.

Sounds wierd, but this will greatly help catch the smaller particles.

I did the panty hose thing with carbon and the sand was settled in the AM.

i used south down too i wish i new the panty hose trick, i gues ill have to start another tank to try it

you should add your lr if you haven't done so yet. it'll help the sand settle down pretty quickly.
