My fish is peeling!

I have 2 true perc clownfish. One of them looks like it has a clear layer 'peeling' off of it. Almost like how a sunburn peels. He seems to be acting ok...swimming fine, eating ok. Any suggestions???

The fish is new. No, i didn't quarantine. Please, no lectures. I should have....i know. I have a quarantine tank, but it's not set up yet. I tested my h20 and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I didn't write down the exact numbers, so i don't have them to post. I looked up pictures of Brookynela (sp?), but that's definitely not it. He is not gasping for air. The peeling is from the bottom up. Nothing is wrong with his gills or fins. He is swimming fine. Like I said, the film isn't cloudy. It looks exactly like when you get a sunburn and it starts to peel...all in one piece.

Just because it doesn't show all the symptoms of brook doesn't mean it's not brook. Peeling skin is a sign of brook, and given that it's a clownfish we're talking about, I think a very strong indication of brook. I had clowns that first started with peeling skin, then came tiny white spots similar to ich and stringy poop, then death. I treated with hypo because at the time I thought the white spots were ich. The fish did not respond to this treatment however and died. I'd get the fish out of your tank and into the QT as soon as possible, no matter how hard it is to catch.

It was brook. As i'm sure you can guess, it didn't end well. My other clown is ok at this point, but if it starts with him i'll get him out and do a formalin bath.

You should do a formalin bath on the remaining clown whether its showing signs or not. A properly performed formalin bath will have no adverse impact.

I agree with Kevin. Clowns are extremely susceptible to brook. If you have two clowns in a tank together and one has brook, you can bet the other has it or will soon have it as well.
