my gorgonian refuses to branch out.

I have a year old purple-ish gorgonian frag that seems to be doing well in my tank. It's polyps extend nicely, it has good color. It has grown about an inch since I got it, and it has encrusted over the epoxy base where I stuck it.

Only now have I started to feed my corals, so it has never received any nutrients other than what is in the water column, which honestly hasn't been much as the tank has been fishless for 6 months.

So for the first 6 months, the gorgonian was placed vertically near the bottom of my 55. When I moved things to upgrade to my 90, I placed the gorgonian horizontal hopeing this would cause it to branch. So far, there have been no signs.

Is there a good method to get these to grow and branch off?

Thanks,
-J
