My hermits are obsessed with my new sun coral

I added my sun coral a few days ago and my hermits, being the overly curious rascals that they are, will NOT stop crawling all over it. I have one extra belligerent one that I try to gently knock off with my turkey baster and he just holds on for dear life.

Its too soon to tell if they are actually doing any damage, but does anyone have any experience with this?

For what its worth, with a few minor exceptions, I'm pretty confident that they aren't stealing food as I keep a pretty close watch on the coral while it eats - until most of the polyps have popped back out after eating.

Thanks for any advice. :)

Probably feeding on the waste from it. It comes out where it goes in. I am not sure if they harm it or not but I don't care for them crawling all over my corals. I have gotten rid of mine, except for one big halloween one that I just can't part with.

I feel like getting rid of mine too. :(

What do you use as janitors? Other than the hermits, I have 2 trochus snails, 2 nass. snails & a skunk cleaner shrimp.

Get an Orange spootted goby, or some type of goby, they clean the sand bed. I had one for about a year and I was feeding daily, he cleaned up everything, At first they make a mess of the tank(sand everywhere) but once settled in they are amazing.

My 2 cents.

Thanks for the suggestion - I actually think I might go the way of a Hectors Goby. Does anyone have any personal experience with them? LA makes me think one would be a good candidate for my tank. :)

My last hermit died today and I am dang glad. Pesky bastards. There are far better ways to keep a tank clean than letting those murderous crustaceans roam the reef.
