this 'might' be a better idea...

put the fan on some eggcrate to decrease the chance of it falling in.

i have been doing the fan blowing directly INTO the sump for years for evap cooling...in a way...deltec copied me with the eco-chiller (just a little more effective)...

my fan is about 3 inches from the water surface and my chiller rarely comes on even with all my equipment in the garage and living in inland north orange county...

try fans like this... I know a few of the club members have had better success with these blower type fans than the regular fans

If that fan falls in while your hand is in the water, they'll find YOU laying around the room :eek2:

GFCI is a must! That cable tv show "Mythbusters" just did a show where they dropped appliances into a bathtub and registered how much current would flow across a person's heart. Everything they threw in was more than enough to kill a person, and when they added salt to the water it almost doubled the conductivity of the water. When they used appliances that had GFCI's the appliance would kick off within a split second. You would feel a quick shock but at least it would shut off before killing you. That is why electrical codes mandate GFCI now be installed in all bathrooms or outlets close to water.

ALL your electric near a tank needs to be on a GFCI.

It's not hard to swap out an outlet, but if that scares you, they also have portable plug-in GFCI's. Not as safe, but much safer than nothing at all.
