My House Reef upgrade

Just read an email story about Molly Miller blennies eating aptaisia. Might be a good idea since my frag section also seems to grow these prolifically.

I am in Berlin for the next few days. Are there any fish stores I simply cannot miss out on.
We are staying in the the city center.

Now this is a fishtank! Called the aquadom, located in the Raddison Blu hotel in Berlin. It's 25 meters tall and has an elevator inside of the cylinder.

Picked up an aptasia eating file fish yesterday. Looks good, a little bigger than I wanted. He was supposed to have a pink spot goby with him but it jumped out of the tank at the fish store.
I recently lost an orange shoulder tang in quarantine. It broke out in some kind of bacterial infection that didn't respond to any treatment. Looked like someone took a lighter to the side of the fish. Weird.
Drained and sterilized the tank and set it up again with water from my 44 gallon change. No substrate this time.
I have been pulling little rocks from my overflow that have aptasia on them and throwing them in with the file fish. He'll get the idea.
My frag tank is getting full and I need to start cutting things from my main display already. My zoa's are getting a little out of control and my montipora needs a major trim. Good problems to have. I have room for another frag rack, but it would mean a big job shuffling things around downstairs.:hmm1: I guess I'm just procrastinating, I'm good at that.

Decided to start fragging some of my corals today. I can see a difference but if someone didn't know, they couldn't tell.
I broke off large chunks of my montipora as it had started to shadow half the corals in the tank. I ended up with almost 30 large plugs worth.
As is the case, you can never put your hands in the tank too much without some unintentional frags so I have those too.
I then started on my zoanthid carpets. All in all, I ended up with over 120 different things with coral glued to them.
Supplements usage has been going steadily up which is to be expected, but nice to see anyway.

My filefish has been in the frag tank for a few days. It hides of course any time I come near, but I catch it now and then picking at the little anemone's.
He's doing his job which is somewhat rare in fish that supposedly do "whatever".
Algae eating tangs are up next from my local fish guy. Have a list of things but he's kind of inconsistent.

Daniel.

Looking good! I agree it's a good feeling when natural predation (your file fish & apts) work out!

I have done a few things recently that were part of the original idea I guess.
I finally drilled a hole in the floor to run my cable for the apex to the router. It was easier than I thought but drilling holes in the floor scares me a bit.
I also upgraded my lights. I added two more Radions for a total of four over my tank. I had them turned up fairly high to try to get more light to all the tank. Now I have more coverage and I was able to run them at much lower power with about the same outcome.

Some corals from black Friday are doing well and I have several new fish in the system. A coris wrass was added downstairs a few days ago. A trio of dartfish was also added a while back. Then a peppermint shrimp, goby and reef lobster was added out of another persons tank. Unfortunately I lost a few fish as well. My Bangai cardinal got stuck in one of my eductors and died, and a dartfish jumped out during the 30 seconds I had the tank lids off. It went on the floor and my dog started chewing on it. Guess I can't blame her for being a rat terrier.
I sold quite a bit of my frags to the local fish guy last month. About 60% of what I had downstairs. I need to vary the type of stuff I grow. He has trouble selling some of what I bring him. The corals don't look nearly as good in his system as in mine. I really think he runs his lights way too low and his water quality sucks.

Some pics from the actinic period on my reef.
