My house repair finally started

I found a leak :eek2: My Mag 2 on my calcium reactor was leaking after all. I don't know why it started leaking suddenly now.

The reactor was placed in a container for this type accident, but a lot of water must have spilled on the hardwood floor. The tank is in a corner of the room and the water must have leaked through the floor between wood slats and around the base board at that corner since I did not see any real standing water. Just a bit of wetness around the container.

I opened up the pump and reseated its o-ring. It seems to be okay now, but I need to get a new o-ring or take this opportunity and replace it with an Eheim pump.

I had to adjust salinity of my tank, too, since it was rather low. Took me a few hours - my fingers look like prunes now :(

wow sounds like you almost had a big UT-Oh. Glad you found the leak before you salinity got to low.. I was thinking 12 gallons on a 120 was a huge amount of evaporation. Hope your wood floor is ok!

Thanks, 8Ball. The floor looks okay right now. Hope it stays that way.

I was horrified about the evaporation rate. Never seen the sump go so low so quickly before. It was just too unusual even with a very low humidity and a very high temp in a well sealed room. There had to be a leak somewhere....

Do you use Eheim pump for a calcium reactor? If so, which size pump are you using?

My corals and fish look happy even with all the wild swings the tank went through. This turned out to be a rather drastic water change. Yikes. The only coral that looks unhappy is Mike Paletta Blue acro. I am not surprised since this one is a bit temperamental anyway - very prone to STN from the tips if it does not like the environment it's in for some reason.
