I have 3 Lyretail Anthias. I bought them at the same time and were all roughly the same size, one barely larger than the others. When I received them I assumed they were all female. Since they looked like
for the last couple of months the two larger ones seem to have been hanging out together while the smallest is on the fringe at the other side of the tank. The 3 would not interact together that much, and the smallest was a bit bullied, but never stressed out too bad.
It seems something has slightly changed recently and this is now what I now observe:
I assume the slightly larger anthias grew more than the others and now has a small spike on the top, very slight reddening. Its last under-belly fin looks much different than the other two as it hooks down and than up. Not sure if it just has it in a different position? It is clearly the larger of the three. I really only noticed the reddening and spike this week. Its also hard to tell if its redder or bc its a bit bigger and therefore its just easier to see.
It's spike is small like this one in the front
The next in line is a bit bigger than the the smallest of the three. It tends to bully the smallest one quite a bit. It seems to do whatever the largest one wants, but they rarely seem to tangle. It is more focused on the smaller one similar to it
The third looks just like when I got it. It tends to hang out on its own but the three have interactions at certain times.
Since I noticed the change in the one Anthias they seem to be interacting differently and are together more than before. The smallest still is mostly on its own though still. The largest seems to stop the middle fish from picking on the smallest if it sees it happening....not sure if that is true but it is what it seems. The largest also does a lot of fast fly by's of the other two fish, giving them a quick nip.
Any thoughts on my core dump? I will try and get some pics.
