Last summer I found a Mantis Shrimp in my main display tank and removed him to my 18gal tank where I grow algae for my Purple Tang. He was interesting but I found I wanted more action and color in the tank, so I decided to get a couple Blue Damsels. I figured they're inexpensive and colorful, and somewhat tough.
Well, I've had them for over a month now, and my Mantis seems to really enjoy the company. In fact, believe it or not the larger of the two Damsels actually SHARES MY MANTIS'S DEN!!!! They help eachother keep it cleaned out. Both carrry the pebbles away, and of course the Damsel has the added advantage of swishing away the pebbles. It's amazing!! I thought they would end up lunch, and maybe they still will, but for now it's quite enjoyable watching the relationship.
My Mantis has become more active and actually seems to enjoy the company. I believe he was getting bored and is happy to have some entertainment.
I'll take some picture's sometime soon. Hopefully, I'll get some good one's. I have a couple pictures of the Mantis and tank in my gallery before I got the fish.
