My Miami

So, why do y'all think My Miami chalice is so popular?
Is it really worth 1000+ per eye??? It looks really cool and all but I cant imagine spending so much on a coral.

Do any of you have this chalice?
If so, how much did you pay?

I totally agree. I'll just wait for the fad to die down, just like with acan in another year or so the prices should be alot more reasonable. I'm already seeing this at some LFS because of thier inability to sell these corals at outrageous prices.

Ya no joke, it is a shame though. its a cool looking coral

pic of mine- I think it's gorgeous and the best looking amongst my collection, but to each their own.

I was thinking it may be cool to split the cost of one, keep it in one tank and when it grows split it in half so both buyers have their own. Then those two/three people could grow it out and sell 100 dollar frags.

Thats a sweet peice, but under that exact lighting. They don't look as nice under normal day or metal halide, and thier colors change if grown under less blue light. Check Aqua Imports in Boulder, they may still have some L.I. chalice frags and at some more reasonable prices. They had Hurricanes and some Mummy eye all summer. Too much money for me plus chalices don"t do well in my sps system I don't feed enough.

Thanks-but just to comment at time of that photo, the lighting rig on that tank was - Current Nova Extreme Pro 4x24" t5 running:
1-12 month old aquablue
2- stock current actinic
1-6 month old actinic +

So far from fancy lighting. I've since replaced all the bulbs with new geismanns and colors have popped more than in the pic.

Oh, and I didn't pay for mine per se, so can't really go into details. The frag is straight from the guys at World Wide Coral though.

I was actually comenting on the oyher pic, but yours looks alot more natural and quite beutiful. I think alot of the ones I've seen are getting too much light.

Gotcha-and yea, the coral has been shown in a variety of lighting, I think some try and push the lighting in certain ways to show off the coral in a way that emphasizes the different colors it holds from others. I think the tank WWC keeps their show pieces in is lit by 20k halides with actinic supplimentation. Too much? tough to say-it's not what the typical hobbiest would use, but if they're growing this chalice for commercial propogation, I would presume the lighting to be doing good for the coral to a pretty decent degree

yea, very much lucky.

Tough to say-LEDs are a bigger world than even T5's. Under a good quality unit that's effective for LPS's and corals in general, the MM should fair as well as any other. I know a few vendors at the IECFM had it displayed under LEDs.
