I came into this hobby not knowing a thing. I have been off the grid here for a bit, but so many of you were so very helpful with advice throughout.
I cannot do anything simple so I had a 280 gallon tank built into the wall for viewing from both my living room and dining room. One month in we experienced a BIG flood because the genius that installed the tank forgot to add the overflow valve - causing us to have to replace our downstairs flooring. It started as a fish only tank with some artificial corals (some remnants of the artificial corals I really liked still remain including the pillars made to look like a pier around the overflows, and an artificial lobster trap in the center. After a year or so of an aggressive tank, and my golden puffer chomping on my eel and anemonies, I decided to switch to a mixed reef. Out went the angels (except coral beauty), puffer, harlequin tusk all to good homes and then started the process of adding coral. Fortunately I just needed to add more powerheads for increased water flow since I started with very good equipment, and I was ready to transition. My FOWLR has become the "home ocean" I envisioned. Still a constant work in progress that has put a big dent in my bank account, but my family and I am loving the results.
Thank you to all who have given some invaluable advice along the way! Here are some current photos I wanted to share - kinda' like showing off my kids I guess....
