My Moonlight Setup (lots of pics)

All you have to do is buy the second bulb. I bought one powwer converter, one cathode kit, and one extra bulb. I have it on a timer. It works great.

Sspargur,

That looks awesome. I bought 3 of them from PCmods. can't wait to get mine set up. I'm waiting for 400w e ballasts to come to convert all my lighting. These cathods were so easy to get running. Highly recommend to anyone.

Thanks, the pictures really don't do the lights justice. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a simple way to add quality moonlights.

They are super simple to install and really look great.

I have mine installed on the rear lip of the MH reflectors, one on each reflector.

Again, these are super simple to install and produce a great moonlight effect.

I have them turn on at 8pm, when my VHO's turn off. I only run them until midnight then they turn off. I personally want my tank to have 6 hours of complete darkness allowing the critters to get a good nights rest. :)

Just thought I'd revive this thread. :D

I just ordered a 4" kit for my 60g cube (it's only 2' long). I was just curious as to why no one thought to buy the UV light? With all this fuss about dimming, why not go with the purplish UV light. I read on the pcmods.com site that this bulb is much more dim than the others, as it is basically a black light. Plus, I'd be willing to bet it would add some crazy actinic fluorescing to the corals too.:)

I use the 25 watt party bulb. This is much nicer. If I could dim it I would use it all the time. the light it puts out is really nice!

JB NY,

Looks good. Sorry about making you post a picture again, this thread has gotten so long, I didn't remember your picture. How long do you run that light?

dlh

dlh5150,

When I run it it's only for 30 minutes or so after the lights go out. I find it way too bright for the tank. Also, since it can not be dimmed. I still use my incandescent light hooked into my aquacontroller instead.

I use the Custom SeaLife Moonlight. Less than one watt of power used.

Also I use the eLightMaster program and X-10 to control all the lights, but the eLightMaster program simulates the moon phases and cycles based on what ever reef your light cycle is immitating.

For example last night the Moon rose at 17:32 and set this morning around 8:20 and was 15% waning following a new moon the past two days.

There are some pics of the light on the website link in my profile.
You can see the program here...eLightMaster

Is everybody still happy with the CCL?

I'm very happy with mine. I light them for the last 30 minutes of the photo period and it has worked well in letting the fish in my tank transition from day light to dark.

My only trouble is pcmods.com. After 6 weeks, I finally got my order and of course both the cathodes were all smashed. So now...another week later I finally recieved my email back with a RMA and shipping is at MY cost to return the smashed cathodes. Bum deal I guess.

PCmods.com Problems

Yeah, I had problems with PCmods.com, as well. I ordered a package, and most of it was alright. One cathode tube was broken, though.

I emailed them, they gave me a RMA, and I sent it back. A month later I emailed them inquiring about the status of the replacement light. They said they never recieved the broken one.

Since I had 80% of the set-up already working (and all I needed was a $4.99 tube), I went ahead and just ordered another light from the site.

Four days later, I received two boxes in the mail, each containing a working tube.

Oh, the ridiculousness of it all.

So now I have the set-up working and I have a back-up bulb just in case...

It is brighter than most people would probably want a typical moonlight set-up, but with a FOWLR tank now, and eventually an octopus, I am only running the main lights for about 7 hours a day, with the moonlighting on for about another six.
