I forgot about this thread... Oh Big Red has disappeared!

He sold his 380g tank. But he has a 190g that is getting full of nice sps pieces. :p

He sold it partially due to the crazy energy costs here and for family matters. He did in fact replace it with a 190 that fits in the wall and fills the hole but just isn't nearly as deep. His new tank is coming along nicely and hopefully he'll soon do a thread regarding it. A gentleman from the Bay area purchased the 380 so it continues on. ;)

Joseph.

If I remember right I saw a thread where he had AEFW and I'm sure that played a big role in starting over. :(

Sorry for not responding sooner. I did sell the 380 due to the HIGH PG&E bills and the baby girl that's on they way and will be born on Oct 5th. I did start a 190 which has the same window size but just half the depth. Here's a pic of it. I'll start a new thread .

Steve,

Congratulations on the pending arrival of your daughter! Glad to hear you were able to scale down and not get out all together.

Best of luck!

Doug

That would be me :), but the "gentleman" comment is a bit too generous :D

I ordered the stand from SoCal Creations earlier this week and should have it by the middle of December. Over the last 2 months we had move the sump and prop tank (that were on the wall that the new tank will go onto) and rearranged all of the equiptment setup to allow room for and access to the new tank once it is in place. This process took quite some time, more than I had anticipated, but at least now it is done. I cleared and stripped down the wall it will be going into last week (moved all but one last electrical line and the plumbing already) and picked up the LVL header for it over the weekend and will be installing it next weekend. Hopefully the following week I will be pouring the pad for it all to sit on to even out the uneven floor in our garage (where it will sit), since all garage floors have a grade to them. Optimistically I will have the pad all cured and ready by the time the stand arrives... then the "fun" begins.

This all is being punctuated by work I am trying to get done inside of our home (redoing a bunch of our kitchen cabinets and a few other "interior projects").

Once I get far enough along I will start a thread and post what little picutres I have so far (and hope to be taking more pictures as things move along). I still refer back to how BigRed had it set up before, checking his old FTS for aquascaping ideas.

I have been looking to Sanjays great thread for ideas :

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=730564

and also have been keeping a close eye on mrcrabs thread :

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=971091

I was leaning towards front access (based on personal preference and several comments BigRed made about his take without front access :)) but after seeing how mrcrab did his I am really leaning that way now :

I relaly liked how boxing in the viewing portal a bit makes it appear to have that much more depth. It also ties in with how Sanjay is thinking about doing his lighting and how Steve up at Oregon Reef did his, to where there was less light at the sides and rear of the tank, to give it more of an appearance of depth. This also will tie in with the whole "energy conservation" theme that all Californians are dealing with due ot the high cost of electricity out here.

well, any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated, I am subscribed to this thread in case anyone replies here. I will hopefully be starting our own thread soon, but wanted to wait until I at least had some pictures and real progress to post :)
