No prob man, It seriously looks awsome in your house!!! Its nice when you build things to actualy look at it many weeks later, makes ya appericate it more, i think!!! Cause when I was building it I was like ehh it looks alright, BUT now that I havent seen it in a while MAN it looks Shhweeeeeettt :D

Tank looks great!!!

How do you keep the white sand so clean and bright??? Mine has a tan color on top now.

thanks sandry! tha sand is fairly new about a month old...but i also stir/vacuum it up every two weeks when I do water changes...i should do it once a week but that is me just being lazy! i'll give it a couple of months and see how it looks.

Chris

I was told that in order for a DSB to work properly you are not suppose to alter it, which is why I try not to disturb mine very much during water changes. My sand bed is about 2-3 inches deep.

When you say "Stir/Vacuum" how do you achieve this without siphoning the sand out??

Also I noticed your glass (back and sides) is very clean â€"œ I also do not like the look of some tanks when the glass is covered with algae, etc. How do you keep the glass back and sides so clean? What type of scrapper if any do you use?

Ps â€"œ The aqua-scaping is really nice also! :)

Good questions sandry. :p

My sand looks really bad and I need to do something with it, and my walls are getting the red spots.

How do you keep them clean?

There is any fish I can buy to keep the sand clean?

My local store adviced me to get a diamond gobby but I read it will be to big for my tank (I have a 36g)

Is there any other fish I can get? anybody ?

This a new setup besides the most of the rock coral, etc that came out of my old tank so the coralline hasn't had a chance to grow on the glass yet..i actually can start seeing of the coralline starting to spot on the glass now...With my last setup I over crowded it and was not able to clean alot of the glass on the sides and glass...So, this time I decided to limit the rock and keep it off the sides and even some of the back to allow me to clean the glass almost all around. To scrap the glass when it does get coralline on it I use the Kent glass scraper that you can get at most LFS.

As far as the DSB it's not really as deep as it looks..The flow has some of it piled up..It's only about 3". From what I understand you should atleast stir up the only 1" in or so once a week. This is helps with bad bacteria building up.

This is more of an experience to me to see what how it works. We have a LFS that does this and there sand is always white.. But I have found in this hobby what works for some people the same thing may not work for other people.. I will know more in the longterm if my sand stays clean and white...

To keep from sucking up the sand. I just take a regular aquarium siphon hose (the one that has one big end and a hose connected to it). I place the big end into the sand until I see the sand starting to go higher in the tube and when it does this I just kink the hose to stop the siphon and the sand just falls back into the SB. You may suck a little sand out but once you get the hang of it you shouldn't have a problem..

Sand sifting gobies can do a pretty decent job but as some people know they can drop pieces of sand on your lower corals, brains, zoo's, ect...

Awesome work on the stand and canopy. The layout of LR and coral looks unnatural. Sort of just stacked in the center. As an avid diver it could be presented better with the limit amount of rock you have. In the2nd pic there appears bleached coral or dead coral I think. Bleached or dead coral isnt appealling in a reef tank? Hey, but the its just my opinion.

I would stack higher and build out from one corner, but more LR has got to be ordered. It doesnt appear that you have more then 20 lbs of rock.

Please just take it as an opinion and everyone has them.

Spearo-Your opinion is welcomed..I'm not affended at all... I am not a fan myself of the landscape I'm still trying to play around with it and I think i i'm going to be taking some of the base rock out and try getting some other rocks that might give it a more natural look...I think the hardest thing to me is trying find what pieces look best without placing it in the tank..

I also don't want it to look to crowded...my last setup was like that and I didn't leave enough open space for the fish to swim..

And yes there is a torch that is dieing which is the one that is bleached. I myslef don't find it appealing.. I have had it for about a year and a half and for some reason it started to wilter away..This was actually my very first coral I ever bought...It is going to come out soon as it an eye sore to everything else.

Hey qckslvr76,

I'll take a shot at the siphoning technique!! Thanks!
As for the live rock design - I like it alot! I have not done any diving (although I plan too) but I like the layout. It leaves alot of space for fish to swim and has a clean spread out look. I'm planning a 90Gal right now and I plan to have two rock columns with space on both sides and in the middle.

qckslvr76, I definately agree with Sandry75. IMO, your setup is original and thats what I like to see. Mimicing the ocean is great theres just too many people doing it. I believe in making your setup the way you like. It'll fit your style.

fla_spearo, I dont think no one should take offense to your comments, he did post for feed back.

Thanks everyone for the compliments and comments..

sandry- I would like to make the valley in the middle but with the overflow in the middle i don't think it would look right since it would be visible. i guess this the only downfall to having the overflow in the middle...Also, I believe the valley only looks good if you have enough depth in the tank similiar to the TOM...JMO..But I will play around with it and see what I come up with.
