My New AGE tank build! It's big! ~1500g DT

Any update on equipment? What LEDs did you end up going with? What about that pump you were talking about earlier? Did you use a blue tint over the solatubes? How is that RO Skimmer working? I read through the whole thread, and have so many questionsssss. Lol.

This tank is amazing!! Great work!!!

Love the aquascaping, it brings out the depth+width of the tank very well.
And yes, we need Sponge Bob! lol

So all tangs in the Naso genus? Or the commonly called "Naso" tang? Do a quick search for Blue unicorn (naso brevirostrus) and show pics and the adult to your wife. They are pretty stellar! :0)

I did look at the blue unicorn. Unfortunately, all Naso's are on the list. I like them, but it's not to be.

I currently have about 8 chinese leds and 4 radion pro 3's. The pumps are working well, although the impellers don't seem to be well attached to the shafts. I had to pull one from the closed loop after only about 8 months since it just came off. They are the sicce syncra 16's. I haven't yet put the tint on the solartubes. I need to build reflectors for them and have gotten sidetracked with other things. They light the tank, but not a ton of par. The par at the solartube is about 1000 I believe, but it disperses quickly and mostly goes sideways. There's a great diagram in someone's thread that shows this. They do make neat shafts of really bright light here and there, but not consistent without reflectors. I'm running two RO skimmers. The SSS5000 and the DC one that's the 6000 or equivalent. They take alot of adjustment for some reason, but seem to be keeping up. That's a big savings ~$800 total in skimmers as compared to one "sized" for my system.

I replaced one of my RDSB's with two ATS' sized for 500g each. They are growing hair algae nicely, and the hair algae in the rest of the tank has almost all died off. I think it's a nice idea. If you can't get rid of hair algae, then grow it where you want to grow it and harvest it to get the nutrients out.

thanks for reading!

Too bad about the Naso ban!

How's the rest of the set-up? You've got lots in the fish/filtration room, yes? I'm sure the masses are itching to see that if you'll share! :0)

And you're right about the algae... grow it in a controlled environment and keep it out of the DT. I've been implementing this on my reef and it's made a drastic improvement in only a few weeks.

I actually don't have that much of interest in the fish room. I have one RDSB, two algae scrubbers, a 120g plumbed in that's not doing anything. a 40g breeder QT tank and the two reef octopus skimmers sitting in another 120g. I guess there's a small calcium reactor. I need a new one. There's also a kalk stirrer and 2 part doser. I think i'm going to get rid of the 2 part and get a bigger calcium reactor and just run that and the kalk stirrer.

Very cool. Is there anything you have done to limit aggression between the larger fish? Or have they not shown much due to the sheer size of your tank?

The only fish that have serious aggression problems are the powder blue and the achilles. They have been uneasy with each other since they were in the 300g and still are. I used the mirror trick for months to get them to calm down a bit.

There are constantly fish with holes in their tails and scratches on them, but it's not obvious who's doing it, so I assume it's just everyday scuffles.

I finally installed all the corals I bought on black friday. Needs some growing out and it's kind of a pain to take pictures of stuff so far back from the glass. I feel like I need a telephoto lens.

I think the walls need some life too. Some gorgonians and some kind of sponges to liven it up. They need more depth. Not just flat rock walls.:bounce2::bounce1: Otherwise it's great.
I agree though, you will need a monster calcium reactor once those corals start growing exponentially. They're just babies, and they already suck the hardness out of the water.

I plan on doing corals on the walls eventually. I actually have a lot of real estate left to cover. I just upgraded to the CR5000D octopus reactor, and I also am running kalk. I hope to eliminate the dosing, that's down to a couple ML per day right now.

I'm assuming you had to go for a swim when you placed those corals. True? How many frags did you place?

It's a two person job unfortunately. Using the platform on top of the tank, you only get your head and shoulders submerged. Someone has to mix epoxy and run around the front to advice on positioning. Just this week, placed about a dozen frags, since black friday, probably 50.

That pond foam looks awesome my tank is already set up for a year wish I would have thought of it beforehand looks great
