my new corals

Don't get me wrong, Charlie, I think the RM folks are great. I have only ever heard good things about them. I just think that in a way it is pretty much downright deceptive the way corals are photoed for these sites. Of course, again, all the sites do it..... (but that doesn't make it right)

I suppose the most honesty would be to take pics of the coral under a couple common lighting arrangements. Take your first couple pics under your magic blue 20000K bulbs. Then turn on the daylights and take them under the more normal mix of blue and daylight that are more commonly used.....

And then make sure the lighting blurb is posted as part of the caption for every coral listed on the site.

That sort of honesty and integrity would make me REALLY REALLY impressed with a site...

That's how I feel about bluezooaquatics. Everything I've ordered from them looks just like it did in the photo's, and the customer service i received was top notch. I even had a bit of trouble with them once and I swear the lady i spoke too on the phone would not hang up with me until she was 100% certain I was completely satisified. I had never been so happy with an online retailer before.

As for all these sites that "doctor" photo's, well, maybe they don't realize that over a lifetime in the hobby, the amount of money a "satisfied" customer will spend greatly outweighs the amount they'd get from "tricking" a bunch of different individuals. I know when I'm not happy with a store, I don't go back. But when I find someplace I like, I throw my money at em!

Sorry all for starting such a deap conversation I was just wanting to let him know what it would look like when it arrived!!!! Because I know I am using some good lighting and it wont even be close!!!

They're here! I've got them still in their bags, but floating in the water. There are 7 bags instead of 4, so I'm really excited to see what else is there! I'll probably need some help in ID-ing these.

I wanna see! I wanna see! Hurry and post pictures before I leave from work! :D

Just kidding, I can wait until Tuesday.

Edit: You spoke too soon, Stephanie :D

They're uploading to photobucket. Almost done - you gotta wait.

These are just under my PC lights right now - don't worry though, they'll be moving to t5's soon.

Most all of these we taken with the flash as well. They're still in their bags.

This one is obviously the pink lemonade

FWIW, i've been to Reefer Madness too many times to count. I've seen their corals in their tanks, in the bags before it hits their tanks and in my hands out of the water and light. Their corals are just that way. Using 20k's isn't cheating and it isn't tricking the customers. How many people use 20k's on their home tanks? I ran 10k's with actinic or 14k and their corals looked pretty much the same when they went into my tank.

However, it's always possible that if the coral doesn't sell fast that the colors could change and of course they can change during shipping. RM is giving an accurate representation of what they are selling. Their corals don't need enhancement.

Great corals btw, congratulations!

Great Looking corals Stephanie, give us some update pics in a couple months after the corals have settled in.

On a side note about the discussion of online vendor coral color. Another thing I have noticed is that they usually take their pictures from the top of the coral. Have you guys/gals ever had the chance to look at the coloration with the lights on from the top down? There is no comparison to the side view.

I need to get my mushrooms and frogspawn in there and get some movement. I just can't bring myself to take them out of my 45g yet.

20K definitely not a way to cheat, but they are an awesome marketing tool for a LFS or an online retailer. Its a way to sell the bulbs they use and a way for them to bring out colors and sell corals much quicker!

Any online retailer or LFS that doesn't use them is basically wasting time and holds on to livestock much longer when compared to those who do use the 20k bulbs!

Just a marketing strategy!

The devil's advocate in me would say that "marketing tool" is marketer code for "anything we can use to sell something no matter what we have to do". I still say it'd be really nice to see an online vendor list something with pics under more basic lighting setups. For instance, one under 20000Ks and one under a 10000K + actinic mix...
