My New Goldflake Angel

Just wanted to share my new addition (currently in QT).

My Male crosshatch passed a month back after 6 months. I think he never adjusted to captivity. I will get a pair of crosshatches once my big tank is up and running.

Let me know what you think of the new guy...pretty excited!!!

Hey Lisa - I got him from a wholesaler in Cali. I paid $230 shipped!

He gave me a smoking deal. It was originally $350 shipped, but gave me money off since I ordered a Personifer angel and it was sick.

I am super excited about the quality of the fish

How long will you QT him, and is your QT hypo or are you just observing?

Hey Lady - I QT all my fish for at least 6 weeks. I will administer de-worming meds as well as put the fish through Hypo so there is no questions as to ich when they hit the DT.

Unfortunately, the Goldflake did not make it through the 2nd day of QT. He died from a severe case of bacterial disease that came on so fast it was unreal.

I have contacted the vendor and I will try this again soon.

I tried 2 goldflakes in the past couple of months. Neither of mine made it through quarantine either. The first one I believe was lost to velvet. The second I'm not too sure about, possibly uronema (which is often mis-diagnosed as a bacterial infection).

what are flukes? I was administering de-worming meds as well as Formalin for bacteria.

He was dead faster than I could blink.

Campbell are you serious? No offense but you don't know what flukes are. They are generally visible on the skin and look like clearish-grey discs that are stuck between scales. A horrible description but they are easily taken care of. I also had a Goldflake that died w/o any visible reason. After speaking with a rare fish distributor, I was told the biggest thing that kiss them are there eggs. If there are collected with eggs they get to stressed and don't drop them. There for the rot inside and end up killing the fish. My goldflake was bold eating really well, gaining weight and then just died. Probably nothing you did. I know your meticulous with your husbandry. I have always had a hard time thinking that fish can just die pre-maturely. Well people and all animals do so. It's the old survival of the fittest, and if your putting an unfit candidate in captivity, the fish is in trouble. Tim
