My new lens...

I bought two lenses last month, one for portrait shots ( Canon 85mm f1.8) and 17-40mm f4 L to fill the focal gap in my bag. :)

I've tried to take some portrait shots with it and so far I am happy beyond expectations.

Here's a sample

And even tank shots didn;t come out too bad.

And I don't have to tell you how good that 17-40 is... it's my first L lens and I think I'm hooked.

Here's a shot of the sunrise shot from my window overlooking "7Presidents Park" in Long Branch,NJ.

Very nice - I was a click away from buying the 85 f1.2 during the rebate but ended up controlling my urge. I hope you end up liking the 17-40 as much as I have because it is really a great lens. Enjoy!

Thanks guys! :)

Eli, I really enjoy having a lens that is a true performer at f4, even with iffy light conditions it got me very useable results. I thank Greg mightily for convincing me. :)

That 85mm f1.2 is on my wish list if I ever graduate to serious portrature... but something longer with the "L" marking is more important at this time. Hopefully for my next birthday my wife will be as accomodating as she was for this one. :D

Just wait till you get the 24-70/2.8 L lens as a walkaround lens... ;)
Then you'll really be hooked!

What? That monster..?

Seriously, though, it is a wonderful lens to be had. I do get by with Tamron;s 28-75mm f2.8 in that focal range. It had been stellar performer for me for the price, outside with enough daylight. If I mature enough in photography I can justify an upgrade then. ;)

The tamron is a spectacular lens and I would have kept mine if its focus had been faster in lower light environments.

Cheers!

I agree, it was my first L, (and only for now) and I never take it off the camera, unless I'm doing macros. Of course I can't wait to buy the 70-200 f/2.8 to go with it!

The 70-200/2.8 IS is such a heavy but rewarding lens.... you will enjoy it!
Cheers!
