What do you think?... I love it :bum:

It looks great! I have some in a 20 nanoreef setup (lighting-compact flourescents), and it is also doing very well. I started out with two small pieces ie each about one to two inches long, and two months later they are quite bushy and around eight inches in length and spreading. However, when I tried a small piece in another reef tank of mine, the tangs ate it. My nano has no tangs.

I've been trying to ID this one for a few days now with no success yet.
I occasionally see it for sale under common names such as "Red Kelp", "Red Feather Kelp", and "Red Caulerpa".

The Genus is Haliptilon. You can see it when you go diving in Hawai'i and the Virgin Islands. Not too hard to keep, but it does use up more Calcium and Iron than most macroalgae. If your Calcium and Iodine levels are good, this will grow well, encrusting live rock as it goes. A very nice macroalgae, it tastes bad, so most tangs and foxface leave it alone.

I should qualify that last statment to say that most tangs and foxface will leave mature pieces alone. Smaller parts of the macroalgae have not accumulated enough glycoprotein or Calcium to discourage herbivory by hungry fish.

Thanks. Do you happen to recognize this one? It's sold online and in shops under the common name "Purple Caulerpa". A member of our club has it overgrowing his tank.

Good ID. It looks like Ochtodes. An awesome algae with two species. One is native to the Galapagos Islands, the other, Ochtodes secundiramea is found from Florida south to about French Guinea. Can be invasive in some peoples tanks, others (myself included) have a hard time growing it. Per pound it is one of the most expensive aquacultured macroalgae.

Thanks guys for IDed the thing. :)
jmanrow,
will your "friend" sell some of those macro?? :D I like it..
