My new mantis "Scooter Von Hard Hammer"

Check out my new beauty!! My wife got me this as an early Valentines present...I guess I drop some heavy hints...

Description:

Size: 2.5"
Color: dark green with orange stripes across tail, baby blue legs and black and green tiger striped "hammers" (see pics...they dont do him justice. Crappy camera I guess)

Any help with an ID is appreciated.

By the way I've got some ghost shrimp that are going to be his friends. I think he's pretty lonely in his little cave by himself.:love1:

The pics are when I was acclimating him. I wished they had turned out better and really caught the colors. Maybe next time

I should ask my girlfriend to talk to your wife for Valentine's ideas ;)

What sort of setup are you keeping it in?

Right now he's in my sump. Its a 20g with LR and all sorts of calurpa, starfish, etc. I did put in some PVC for "instant cave" so he would feel at home.

I do however plan on getting a nano-cube for my office then I'll transfer him there.

Speaking of my wife...this is what she called and told me last night so I would come home from work. She says "You'd better come home because there's something wrong with your tank!" So I of course nearly crapped my pants (good thing I was wearing brown kahkis) and raced home to find a mantis floating in a bag in my tank. Needless to say I was relieved.

He's dang sweet. Like I say I going to bring home some ghost shrimp for dinner. Hopefully he'll get to use those Dactyl apendages of his.

Congratulations, what a great wife!:D Now what are you getting her? A nano cube?

Being the great wife that I am, wonder if my hubby would be as excited about a gift like that! LOL, somehow, I don't think he'd be as thrilled. :)

looks good, I would bet the house on it being a Gonodactylus ternatensis, male (which is important considering the name you have chosen!).

It looks like a male Tern, as T-T-Trigger said. The blue antenal scales (those padle-thingies on it's head...) look like very good evidence.

I am no expert, however.

So how big does a Gonodactylus ternatensis get?

I gave him (I can say "him" now with confidence) a couple of ghost shrimp...and ill be honest I started to feel bad after because I've never seen such cruelty in an animal before! he just kept drilling it. POP POP POP!

I got over it real quick and tried to give him more but he had enough. Man it was awesome.

if I had known manitids were so sweet I woulda got one a long time ago.

Their maximum size will be ever-so-slightly under 4", but they do get fairly thick along the way. Very brutal, beautiful, gregarious species.
