That eel is pretty cool. Are there any drawbacks with having one?

Only if you have small fish that you like :)
They tend to eat anything that fits into their mouths if they get hungry... keep him well fed.

So far so good. I kept him in my sump for the first week and got him use to silversides. Now that he is in the main tank all I do is float a siverside at the top of the tank and he swims up and grabs it. So far he has not attacked any fish yet. He is with a small yellow watchmen and also a small hawk fish. The Tangs are bigger then him.

Just my 2 cents here - I had a SFE in a FOWLR tank - it was great! I would hesitate to put one in a reef however as they can knock over or damage corals as they get pretty violent at feeding time. Just something to think about.

i hate to ask a stupid question but here goes, are the silversides the same as people use to fish lake erie. if not i was intrested in possibly getting an eele where would i get silversides from?

I got my pack of silversides from RMS in willoughby, its in the fridge with the rest of the frozen foods. I would bet almost any LFS would have them... Other then Petco I think they don't carry them.

From my experience if it will fit in their mouth they will eat it - I've seen them eat baby mice. The key is to make it look alive by wiggling it around and also to get them on a schedule - feed at the same time of day. I fed mine every other day but some people feed only once or twice a week.

how big do they get,and are they aggresive to other fish and to me? i have a tomatoe clown that wont take any crap from the eel along with me. he always chases me out of the tank.

I remember I "considered" buying an eel and the lady at the LFS told me to make sure I had a secure lid and that pretty much steered me away.
