So, after two months of "I'm gonna order my acrylic this week..."
I finally ordered it today. Two sheets of 1/2" clear cast material, cut into the following dimensions:
2- 49"x25" Front and back
2- 28"x25" Sides
2- 49"x29" top and Bottom
This will leave me with about 1/2 sheet left over to make sump dividers, etc.... Cost was $231 per sheet, so I'm saving over 50% of the cost on this tank by building it myself....
The only test now is whether I can make the seams as clean and nice as a professionally built tank. I've been practicing my pins method and getting pretty good at it...
I'm already thinking about making a bigger skimmer, too. My DIY Beckett skimmer is cranking on my 70 right now, and it works fantastically, but there are a few lessons learned from that project that could help me build an even better one.
Capacity of the new display tank will be 150 gallons (148.5 actually), and I'll use my current 70 as the sump/fuge on the new system.
My Acrylic is supposed to be ready for pick up next week, so my new tank project will be back under way then...
I'll be starting threads in the SPS keepers forum and the DIY forum as this project progresses. I'll post links to those threads when I create them....
