Hey guys,
Here is my new Stars and Stripes puffer. He is about 3in now and I am planing to upgrade him to a 150gal in a few months. Can I keep a smaller porcupine puffer with the stars and stripes?

Thanks, he is new to the tank; right now I am going through alittle de-worming just incase he had any parasites. Very social and destrutive. I would love to have another puffer or a porcupine so I am here asking you guys if I can do something like that?

I think you can, but I would wait until you see how much of a load a puffer adds to a tank. My porcupine puffer is my favorite fish, but he is the messyest thing I have seen. Good luck

Do you have the 150 already? You should really think about upping that to a 250 or so with a stars and stripe puffer. They will grow another 5 inches or so the first year and get huge.

Yes

Yes

You can do it. Of course each case depends on the personality of the fish. I have a 125 gallon stars and stripes puffer about 5 inches and a porcupine puffer of the same size as well as a few other fish in the tank. They get along great not one little issue. I recommend it. Hope it works for you.

Thans guys, the 150gal I am looking at getting is an extra high tank. The tanks demensions are 4ft long x 2ft wide x 2ft8in high. I feel that should be plenty of turning room for my stars and stripes with a nice center piece of LR, 30gal long refug sump, and a coral life 220gal skimmer.

Also I feed my puffer half inch freeze dried so he gobbles it up with little to no excess food to the bottom. I also have a few hermits and jawfish that love to eat the pre-chewed shrimp. :)

Here is my new addition :) a beautiful 1in porcupine puffer.

That porc is so awesome! He's so yellow! I'd suggest a tank that is not so high but longer. Puffers enjoy the swimming room.

If that is all you feed. You need to change it up or he will eventually die.
Just for an example I feed mine crab legs, clams, mussels, silver sides, scallops, and krill. I also sneak some nori into the food.

They are beautiful. Good luck

I'm in missouri so it is a little hard. You should have no problem. I go to a store called global market. They have everything.

Okay yeh, I should try the market for them, I know I can get silver sides, shrimp, crab legs and krill. Also I was reading about keeping their teeth filed down, how should I go about doing this as a preventative?

I have decided on the 150xh because I like the depth and height better then the 120gal. The fish I would like to slowly introduce are: 1-Stars & Stripes Puffer
1-Porcupine Puffer
2- Pearl Jawfish
1- Powder Blue Tang
1- Powder Brown Tang
1- Bi-color Blenny
The setup for the 150gal will have a 30long refugium underneath with a Coral Life 220gal skimmer, Mag-drive 9.5, and 2 rena 300 watt heaters.

Any hard shelled food will help keep their teeth trimmed.
When they chew the crab legs or scrape the clam out of the shell it files the teeth.
