My new red S. Haddoni!!!!

New story starts here...

After losing the blue haddoni yesterday, I called about 30 LFS within 200 miles and found a few that had red and blue haddoni's in stock... So I drive up to Long Beach and the first store has a beautiful red haddoni! It's 8" when fully open.

So I picked it up.. I was extremely fortunate to get this one because another family was making a decision on him but then I snatched it... Also, while paying for him at the cash register, another guy walks in and then tells us he came there to pick up that haddoni too..

Anyway, now I am 100% convinced the shipping caused the blue haddoni to die. During the acclimation process of this red one, I had a difficult time placing him in the tank. He was so sticky!!! The blue one just fell right in.. Also, this red one I could actually see its foot. The blue one was just a big blob and actually never planted his foot.

Anyway, here are the pics...

This is just opening the bag and starting the drip.. i didn't have to float because the water was already 78'! This was a two hour drive back home but the air was warm and kept the bag warm.

This is him in the tank.. so far looks good. His mouth looks tightly closed but I cant get a good pic of it. This is 30 mins in the tank:

I'll be watching it closely!!!

Looking good.. His foot appears to have planted already.. took only 60 mins. I can barely see his foot anymore.

wooohoo!! very nice 125! :) i went threw the same thing as you did, my first haddoni bought online from a store.. and it was shipped to me and didnt last more then 5 days, and like you said, just kinda went right in the tank, wasnt too sticky, i think from shipping stres...so after that i went and found one local (from a reefer) .. went and picked it up (the current green one i got) .. and it was much easier to acclimate to the tank, and super sticky while trying to put it in, i almost thought i was gonna kill it cause it was stuck to my hand... but all was good :)

but i agree i think there is a huge difference between having 1 shipped, and picking one up local

but very nice red, im a bit jealous :)

Now that is a nice looking cube...red hadonni looks happy/healthy. Cali people are lucky with LFS carrying carpets..

Nice pickup! I always wanted a color carpet but never had the guts to get one cuz I overstock my tank with fish. And I hear horror storys with carpets and fish.

Keep the pics coming!

great specimen, by far one of the best anemones i have ever kept. i believe if an aquarist can keep one of these, there is nothing they cant.

WOW great find. I hope this one sticks around a little longer than your last one.

I hope so! I haven't been getting a good night's sleep because I keep worrying about the red guy :strange: ..

However, so far all signs look good. It's day 3 and his mouth is still tightly closed most the time and barely open some times. It looks like a slit when its open, not like a donuts. He hasn't deflated yet either but he does get a lil smaller at night and expands the most when the lights are out. Normal... His foot is well planted and burred in the sand. He hasn't moved from where he was either.

I'll post some pics at the 7 day marker.

I wouldnt worry just yet, Mine did that for a couple mos. It still deflates to about half the size at night and its happy.

The mouth is tightly closed most the time but has an open slit sometimes. When it is open, its still pretty tight around. I read this could mean he's hungry.

I feed him two pieces of krill. It was pretty small and he grabbed it instantly and put it in his mouth. Good sign? I usually feed my bta bigger pieces of shrimp. Is a few pieces of krill enough for a week?

Also, after I feed him, I noticed the siphonoglyphs is sticking out and the mouth is slightly more open (about 1/4 inch). He seems happy after he ate though.

Is it normal for the mouth to be open after eating? Maybe stuff just went through his mouth so it takes him some time to close it up?
