My new RO/DI

Finished hooking it up this AM flushed it and ready to make some RO/DI yahoo!!!! I hooked this up to be a two output system. Drinking water is filtered and run threw the RO only. Tank water will be RO/DI. They can be used at the same time. Didn't want drinking water to go threw the DI. Figured it would last longer that way. Just need to tidy up the lines and mount the DI vertical. The only problem I had was with the Faucet. It leaks out the top. No TDS meter yet so no readings sorry. I will be getting a duel meter soon.

Do you have to close the storage tank line off in order to get your make-up water? The way mine is set up is with an on/off valve on the storage tank. If I leave the storage tank line open I get pressurized water (for the 2.5 gallons the tank will hold), if I turn it off I get the normal trickle. Either way it runs through both the RO and the DI filters. Nice looking setup.... Wish I could mount mine in the basement. Is it going o be tied in to an auto top-off?

Thanks Jeremiah. No i don't have to close the tank fill. Mine is plumbed so that I can use both at the same time if need be. I don’t want to tell my family they can’t get cold water from the frig because I’m making RO/DI water for the fish tank. Don’t think that would fly with the wife lol. I know one will take away from the other if used at the same time but not enough to make a big deference I don’t think anyway. The most they would be used together would be for a glass of water that is 8 to 12 ounces.

So when your filling your fish water container does it purge the tank first? Sorry for asking so many questions, I'd just like to find an easier way to set mine up.. Thanks.

No it doesn’t. If you look at the end of the DI there is a T. When the DI valve is open and the tank is full the water it will flow to the path of least resistance which is threw the DI and vice versa for the RO drinking water with the exception of it is boosted by the pressure of the RO water in the storage tank when we need it upstairs. Works good so far.

Ya know...it blows my mind Dave. I know I need an RO/DI filter for the tank, but I am still having Hair Algae problems...I can't imagine what it would be like without it!!!!!

Dave,

Finally getting around to plumbing my Ro/Di accesories.

I am having a little trouble following the pictures you posted and understanding how the Storage tank works. :o
Can you tell me how you connected the storage tank. I only see a line going in. What simple concept am I missing?

I had the RO Bypass valve added to my Ocean Reef +1, so I have a drinking water line coming off my system,
http://www.thefilterguys.biz/ro_di_systems.htm

I want to connect the drinking water line to a faucet, the storage tank, and the fridge.

How do I proceed?

If you look at the end of the DI input there is a T with one end threaded and screwed into the DI filter. Water from the bottom filters is input at the bottom of the T. If I open the valve on the end if the red line to the left it flows through the DI and I get DI water. Now when I use the faucet upstairs it does not go through the DI but and I get just RO water. No need for RO/DI drinking water and saves on the DI filter. The one flaw. Because I do not have a check valve in the line between the DI and the charcoal filter on very top the pressure from the storage tank will empty when DI water is made and there is no pressure upstairs. I need to put a check valve in so when making DI water it does not drain the tank and I have pressure upstairs. Hope this helps.

OK,

If I am understanding you... what I need to do

1. Connect the RO membrane Bypass line to a quick connect tee
2. Connect one end off of the first quick connect Tee to a second quick connect tee. This will give me three lines.
3. Install ball valves on the Faucet and Fridge lines.
4. install the Check valve on line to the storage tank.

Please let me know if I have this correct.

Thank You

Steve

That looks like the same unit I have. If your faucet is leaking from the top, you may just have to push the spout down into the base further. The J shaped spout will pull right out, it has a o-ring to seal into the base.

I think this is what you described for the best setup for this system. Let me know, I was pulling the faucet water out after the DI and it caused me to replace it sooner than I was expecting.
