My new setup

This is my new setup, it's a 55 gallon, I want it to be more of a reef tank with a few mellow fish. I'm really excited about it. If im worried about anything it would be losing power and the pump shutting down and the refugium overflowing. My girlfriend will kill me lol. Any suggestions?

your sump should be able to handle turning off your pump. lower the water level in your sump so that when you turn off your pump it doesnt overflow.

i would add more rock, because rock acts like a natural filter. also that damsel will be a sob, might want to take him out. it will limit tank mates later on

Thanks, the damsels are coming out, they are only in there to help cycle the tank. I am concerned that the big Rock in the middle and the flat one on the right are not live rock. Think I got screwed on them. Didn't know what I was buying when I got the from a guy on Craigslist.

oh no, don't let people on here know you cycled a tank with fish. lol they get very serious about that. dead rock turns live, so dont worry about the rock being live

Oh, my last tank was cycled and I used the water from it for my new tank. They are just in there for now along with a few hermits..

its ok i was just playing with you. i dont believe you have to wait 3 weeks before you put a fish in. if it dies grill it up :)

Should I add rock to the DT or the refugium?

the dt imo. you will have corals that light higher light and corals that like lower light. to me the rock is there for filtration and to hold my corals. i don't really use the rock as a display. but to be honest i moved my rock 10 times at least in last year lol

ok, I got another piece of rock in there. It's a big one. And im happy to say that after 3 tries I have snails in the tank and they have attached and are on the move. I'm really excited! The LFS tested my water and said everything looks great except my phosphate levels, sold me something to fix that and I should be ready for corals. What should I start with?

did you use ro water to make the saltwater. i would start with gsp . but make sure there rock is isolated, because they spread fast. also kenya tree coral is an easy one also. can try xenia and any of the leathers should be ok.

I didn't on my first setup but I've been adding ro water to bring the salinity down. I have been adding Kents liquid reef to help get ready for corals. It all looks good. I'm just afraid to spend money on a coral and it dies on me overnight...
