On size he is at least 10" (i think he is a foot) but next time he sleeps I will hold him down and check

Tank size being a totally separate issue...

In any case, puffers need aquascaped homes. They have to have someplace to retreat to...even if they are the only fish in the tank. Even if its a rubbermaid bin w' a hole cut in the side or a terra cotta pot from home depot.

Bare bottom can really help w' tank cleaning w' big puffers so you should be okay there...

Right, I just got two nice chunks of LR and i think i will get a pot for the HD this week, Good idea,

As far as food?

A mix of krill and Formula 1 2, on a schedule, and then I treat him with clams and tiger shrimp. Also some nori. And on the weekend my 4 pound Yorkshire Terrier , thats
