my new tank has taken a poop!

Well my excitement has quickly turned to sorrow for my new 40 breeder set-up. Wednesday night my corals were introduced to my new tank and things were looking up, the next morning where my corals had PE and looked good. Since then they have done nothing but die off 1 by 1:( . I am down to just a few corals that seem to be heading down the same road to the big saltwater tank in the sky. At least my clown fish is doing well. I believe the main problem was the fact that there was a temperature swing from my old tank to the new tank, about 3 degrees. I have since realized that was a big no-no! All the other parameters that I could check were ok. I am bummed, but I guess I will start off fresh and see what happens!

Thats a bummer man. Unfortunately, it happens. It was likely a combination of a couple of things. The quick temp swing coupled with the stress of the move, etc. Once one dies, the water quality diminishes, then another and so on down the downward spiral. I would do a large water change just to be safe. You may be able to salvage the survivors.

Chris, if you need me to hold anything for you feel free to run it over here. If you decide to tough it out I wish you luck. Your tank always looked so clean and neat in the pics.

I can give you some frags when you get things settled again and feel comfortable.

Hope you get things turned around quckly.

Thanks Kevin for the encouragement. My big acro I won a few meetings ago just bleached out today. What do I do with the acro crab? Anyway I will definitely take you up on the frag offer when the tank gets stable again. Thanks

hey Chris, anything you need to help get you started again let me know, I can spare some frags and small corals if that will help you out! Dont forget setting up a tank is a slow process dont rush it.

I have some acros that he could live in. I'm not sure if the crabs will continue to live in a dead coral as long as they are fed. If you find that you need to get him a home just let me know.

I know Tim (ChickenCannoneer) is really into acro crabs and would probably have lots of SPS frags he could donate when you are ready if you trade him the crab :)

Sorry to hear about your tank, you where really excited about it too. But, just let me know when you are ready for corals and I will chop you off some pieces. HTH, Tim

You guys are the best! I will take my time, but it will be hard. Whoever wants the acro crab most can have it! I will bring it to the next meeting and you guys can fight over him. I wish I could get a pic of him but he stays back in there quite a bit. Thanks again! I will keep you updated.
