My new tank :)

The unfortunate thing sitting behind the pc and you just get to see my words ,is, you miss me snickering at you guys and if you were close enough youd feel me poking my elbo on ya. No worries,

I rearanged my sofa and decided to make this tank a 3 side, and it makes a perfect room divider. Ill post some pics when I can afford some salt to put in the thing. You know the commercial.Fridge full of chocolate cake, and empty milk cartons, arrrrrg ;)

AND THEN THERE WAS LIGHT! ! !

20,000 Kelvin to be exact :D

Read a few articles on how to wire this up via the DIY foums, one diagram I looked at would work, and apparently did for him to post it, but was hooked up assbackwards pointing the white plug source wires to hook up to the 120v wire, but anyway.

A great visual diagram This sight gives you both the industry diagram and a layman diagram, which was very cool.

32 bucks from a guy name Kevin on ebay for the light, 45 bucks shipped for a new raw 175 watt ballast(RC user fastjunkie, who says drop him a pm and he'll hook you up;)) And a nice reflector from a fellow MARS member on trade and I have a sweet and complete MH set up now.Im on a rush right now heheh, was like a Zelda game peiceing this stuff together and finally getting all the stones together Im rocking!:D

Ya,Id love to post some pictures, but my camera died on me a while back so Im outta luck.A very nice intense blue though:)Ill be filling it up with water today.

Pray for no leaks!!;)

I can't wait to see! You might have told me, or said earlier... but is this going to be a reef? or a FOWLR? or??

I cant wait to show everyone Ben:D Becuase the MH takes up most of the room in the hood, theres really no room for actinic supplementation.Thats why I decided on the 20k. This 30g tank will be my softy and LPS tank. In a few months I'll be taking out all my softies, and most of my LPS from my current 55,which will then be predominantly an SPS tank with a few lps.Now if I only had a camera ;)

Goin to the store tomorrow to buy a return pump :)

-Justin

Not to steal your thunder TK;)Glad I checked my email and saw an update to your thread which reminded me of my own :wildone:

Well finally got all my equipment, I ended up upgrading my 55's return pump and am now using my new surface skimmer with the CA1800 I took out of the 55. Surface skimming and circulation works great and everything is amazingly going on very smoothly and like TK, Marc has been extremely helpfull in making this all come to life, reall asset to the club and its members, kudos to you sir.

Some of my rock was covered with some good size chunks of dying sponge.Rather than scrub or blast it off,I used it to help cycle the tank. With 4 inches of uncured oolitc DSB and partially cured LR, there was some cylcing and curing that needed to be done.

Now Im looking at a beautifully poopy brown color of algae fluffed on my rock and sandbed:D Now with circulation complete and a PH in there and the light cycling,Ill do a few WC and then in a couple days I'll put the skimmer in there and start testing. Maybe in a week or 2 Ill be ready for some snails :D

LOL - Poopy Brown? I didnt scrub a bit either, just put the rock into the tank and let it all rot!

But a few rocks started looking poopy brown and fuzzy so I pulled em out and gave em a sniff.

Sure enough, looks poopy brown = smells poopy brown!

So I gave those rocks a mild scrub and rammed em back in the tank. It helped ALOT. Within a day the ammonia and such stopped climbing and began to stablize.

Do you also have the baby poop yellow goo on your rock? Mine Finally went away.

5 days shy of being 1 month to the day I kerplunked my first coral!Whoohoo >audience applaud soundbite here< ;) Im stoked, and it was one of my pink finger leathers that Ive had for over a year now, so I was crossing my fingers. My excitements cuz the guys polyps opend within about 35 min! That coral when I first got it took me over a month to show signs of polyps!!Ive had a few hermits and a nasserius and florida snail in there for a almost 2 weeks now really mowing the lawn, and yesterday I noticed a lil palythoa in full extension and knew it was a sign to get to stockin!
Should be able to get some pics within a month or two :)

I just love these new tank threads. All most as good as setting up a new tank myself (well not all most, but certainly less work). It is so neat all of the stuff that starts growing, and the fun of seeing a new environment go from nothing to a beautiful aquascape. It is also more fun when you know the people involved. I am looking forward to new pictures Justin. How could you start a new tank thread when you don't have a workable camera? Just to tease us?
