My next build...possibly

Ok...I have another question. I'm think about starting another salt tank. Currently I have a 10gal nano and it has been successful...I've got a ton of Zoo's, a frogspawn and an anemone. Anyways, I thinking about starting a corner tank, I think it 65 gals but don't remember the exact size as I saw it at the LFS. I know people say that a larger tank is easier than a nano, but is it really? Has anyone worked with corner tanks before and have any opinions? The only reason I was thinking corner is b/c I have this one corner in the dining room, that my golf clubs currently occupy, that a corner tank would look good in. As always any type of feedback is appreciated.

I love the look of corner tanks...but you end up with a smaller footprint...important for FW fish, but maybe not so much of a concern for a reef set-up...

I've also heard numerous complaints about what a pain they are to clean...so keep that in mind...

...and the only other issue is the actual corner of the tank...if it's squared-off, so you have room for equipment it's much better than if it takes up the entire corner...

In my opinion, a larger tanks isn't "easier" it's just more forgiving of the mistakes and laziness that most of us encounter. I've never done a corner tank, but personally, if i was to start one, I'd be sure it had flat as opposed to curved glass. easier to keep clean and less distortion when viewed from up close.

i have a 54RR corner and i absolutely love it, and so does everyone that has seen it. the only tough part is the inside of the stand for a sump.. get a custom one and your all set.. i love my corner tank, and will be upgrading to a bigger 92RR corner within the next year.

I have had a 44 pentagon for 1 1/2yrs 2 sides are 22" and then 3 13" for the front panes & 24"D . I had to build a custom canapy for it but other than than I loved it. I agree with Tony that getting a sump under it is tricky. I was also able to create a unique aquascape. I just finished my 75gal and moved most of the contents to that. I was going to leave it up for a QT but my patient wife says 1 tank is enough. I'll respect her wishes to minimize resistance on the next upgrade:)

Corner Tanks Are Awesome!!!!!

Corner Tanks Are Awesome!!!!!

I've had both a 54 and a 96 gal corner tank from All-Glass and loved both of them.
Positives are: Smaller footprint. Easier/less light ( I was able to light a 96 gal with 1 175 watt halide and a couple of 32 watt pc's, try lighting that many gallons with that little light in a standard size tank.)
Negatives: You need to get it Reef Ready or drill it. Sump space is an issue, there's little room under the stand for a sump and most premade sumps are made very long and thin for standard tanks, you pretty much need to make your own sump or get creative. Running cords and hanging/ lights or making canopies are tricky. The only beef I had was making a square pendant light look right over a triangular tank.

I'd love to have one again, my wife was even mad at me when I had to sell the 96 when we moved, I know if I can ever sneak another tank into my house this would be my first try.

I have had both small and large(er) tanks. Larger is definitely easier. Specific gravity swings are slower, all chemistry is slower, temp changes are easier to manage. Downside is much more salt to mix, & larger water changes which can be a PITA if you're using buckets. Just my $.02!

Thanks to everyone so far for you responses...I going to start looking this weekend for a new tank. Not sure if its going to be a corner, but i do have my heart set on one. As soon as i know you guys/girls will be the first to know...
