my next camera

Shai Dorsai!
I have a Nikon D70 with a 18-270 VR lens. As I have no other lenses I never switch lenses and I rarely find my self wishing to do so.

If I decide to get a new camera to replace my D70 is there a point and shoot with comparable or better lens range? What about shutter lag? That lag is pretty much why I went to DSLR years ago. I shoot primarily in RAW but only because I can not because I have to. I average 5-7K snaps per year that get saved to my computer. Besides walks on the beach I also like photographing my kids, pets, nature, and artistic shots.

Yeah there are a lot of options out there in the "bridge" camera market. These are cameras for folks like yourself that want DSLR flexibility and reach without all the switching of lenses and whatnot. Nikon, Canon, Sony, and Olympus all have options available. I believe Fuji does too. What you will need to look for is that RAW feature and the shutter speed to suit your needs. Most average between $300 to $500 in price.
