My Niger Trigger hates me

Just noticing the past few weeks some major aggression from my Niger Trigger. And its towards me! If I go near the glass, he goes nuts and tries to bite me. Goes absolutely insane if I put my finger on the glass.

If I go to the end of the canopy and look down at him, he is fine. He gets fed from here. But anywhere else at the glass, he apparently wants to "get me".

Anyone else finding your Niger is getting more and more aggressive as he grows?

Last week I tried to add a Wrasse from my other tank to his tank and he torn its fins up pretty bad. I also tried to add a Sailfin tang from a friends tank a few weeks ago but again, he chased it and with the tang was actually lunging at his head.

So no more tankmates which is fine since I shouldn't anyways.

Niger's become a real pain in the butt when they get big. I've seen mature niger's (8"+) that were meaner than the meanest undy I've ever seen.

Yeah it seems like mine may be getting there. I remember hearing they were one of the less aggressive Triggers and thats why I chose him. I still love the fish but man he getting nasty. Although he does not seem to mind his tankmates...so far.

I think the grouper, puffers and rabbitfish will all be big enough and strong enough to live with him as he gets older but some of the smaller guys will probably have to go.

Just something I will have to keep an eye on.

Technically he's my fiances fish and she says he just has good instincts :D He does not do it to her

my niger is about a good 8"+ and he is dosile towards other tank mates a good model citizen lol, but he will go after me sometimes in the tank when i'm in it lol, well so do all my other triggers like my 10" hawiian durgeon, with me as long as they are good with other tank mates they are good model citizens they don't have to like me but i like them, just shows the personality of trigger fish not affraid of anything:D

Yea, I had to sell my Niger because it got too agressive as it got bigger. Not towards me, but towards the other fish. Too bad, I really liked him.

And I picked a Niger as a "harmonious" addition to my tank! He's small and mellow now. Guess I'll just have to keep a close eye on him once he is in the 210...

Yeah this why I picked a Niger. He was very mellow but now is starting to worry me. But he does not bother any of his tankmates even when they take his food right out of his mouth. He just won't accept any new fish I don't think. Besides the grouper...but the grouper towers over him! :p

I still don't think Niger Triggers are too bad in terms of aggression. Just keep an eye on yours.

I realy miss my Niger Trigger...he was awesome (he was 5 when I came home to not find him...argh...where does a large trigger go anyway!) He was fantastic around me, never trouble while cleaning...did some of the funniest things for food...of course...but had quite the evil streak towards my ex-husband (what can I say, the fish knew before I did). He went beserk everytime he came near the glass...I should have taken it as a sign!

mines never lets me put my hand in the tank. every time i do he chases my hand,i do not think he wants to bite me though. He comes very close to my hand then stops, then i chase him with what ever is in my hand. Was very peaceful at first, no a moster

Do you think he is just getting excited because you are going to feed? My angels used to do that, especially my queen. She would rub her face on the glass and go nuts, whether I had food or not, every time she saw me.

My hawkfishes hold grudges against me, I just moved two of them to different tanks and catching them was a long and painful ordeal for all of us and now both of them hide upon seeing me. I actually have to use a target feeder and feed them with a vale over the tanks to they don't see me and hide. They do that for two or three months before I'm their best friend again.

Maybe but I don't think so. He does beg for food but its different.

This is more aggressive.

LOL! Thats great!

yea, those fish love to let me know just how upset with me they are. It really hurt me the first time around cuz I really bonded with them, but now I know they'll learn to love me again... mostly bacause I give them food everyday.

my yellow tang does back flips after every feeding! People think I'm kidding when I tell them but when they come over and observe it's pretty funny. Next I'll work on getting him to speak!
