My Ocellaris is spawing

Cool it sounds like you are on the right track. Its been that hot there? Wow. No AC I assume? I don't have a chiller but I have central air. You are using fans also right? Good luck with the next one!

We have a window AC and I use only a small fan that blows the surface in the hood.

Out of the batch, I had 11-13 survive.
My ammonia is at the alert or just lighter, maybe about .03 or .04
My temp is 78-79...and I am not liking that heater. I may return it or buy another brand.

I checked this morning on them, I can only count 9-11 of them, with one skimming the bottom, not sure if he will make it.
Their bodies are darkening and their back half is turning black?
Both parents are organge and white, so not sure about that.

11 DAYS LATER AND THEY ARE AT IT AGAIN.

I was thinking this morning that the female plumped up alot overnight. That must bve the reason behind it.

I just came home for lunch here and the parents are cleaning vigorously and the tubes are out.
I dont see any eggs yet, but last spawn, they cleaned and performed 2 hours of dry runs until the real deal started.
From observing last time, I think the females tube is very sensitive and she will make dry passes to see if the
rock or substrate is clean enough. She will dry pass and then clean the same spot after the pass.

Unfortunatly, they are still going for the overhead beam of rock in their cave.
Maybe the time between spawns has shortened from the temp increase, or maybe they were upset to see their last batch go.

I just cleaned the larva tank by siphoning the bottom, that should help with the increasing ammonia...still under .05

There are a total of 12 left.

Ok, they started their spawn and are now laying.
They stared at 2:15pm....that is the same time as last laying!

I even changed my full lighting schedule a few days ago for the heat!

Cool at least they are on schedule. Mine were like clockwork for about a year now they are all over the place.

Update:

My first batch raised, only have lost one in the last week.
6 days old - 11 survivors.

The last spawn is 4 days, so I will expect to hatch wednesday +/-

I will try to get some pics of the 5 days, but they are tiny!

Update:

1st batch is at 8 days and about half have their head stripe.
A few have their middle coming in.
One has his middle stripe coming in, without the head yet.
All 11 are still alive and well.

I expect my eggs now to hatch wednesday night, poss tues as yesterday showed some silver eyes, and today almost all are there.

The only problem now is my heater for the tank currently home of the 11.
I posted here

I appriciate the frequent updates, did any survive from the first clutch? I'd love to see pictures of broodstock and juvi.s!

The first laying, I let go, or at least I was not prepared and they hatched early morning.

The 11 I have now are the first clutch I tried to raise.
After the reckless first night, there were 12 I think, so 11 after 8 days is good in my book.

The camera I have is great for doing display tank shots and video, but when it comes to
the larvae, fogetta boutit!

Wish I could, but tried a few times.
I have a cheap CoolPix that doesnot do good with the rot and bbs water.
Perhaps when they get to the growout with crystal clear water.

Waiting on the new hatch as we speak.....

The first batch of 11 are still left and alive and gaining alot of orange and also have two full stripes.

I should be updating very soon:)

They hatched and it was another PITA

About 200 are in the larvae tank and about 20 didnt make it so far.

I have shut off all lights and will see how they are doing in the morning.

I have added them with the 11 day olds, not sure how this will turn out, but since the spawn was only 3 days after the last hatch, they are only 11 days apart.

We will find out.. I will keep it updated

Checked on the tank this morning...

A few more didnt make it, about 30 in all.

There are about 100+ that are fine, and looks as if the will be fine with the elders.

Of the 11 elders (12 days old today!) They are so orange, I wonder if they are gonna turn RED! lol.
I saw one with extra dots on the underside, I had thought that maybe it;s stomach was starting to rupture....but after seeing two more this way, and looking closely, here it is their pelvic fins turning black! How amazing!
I would have to say that they are close to 3/8 inch.

After checking out more accurately, There is around 140-160 2 day olds.
They are doing fine with the 10 or 11 13 day olds.

My rot cultures are dipping low. I put them outside in the sun to help jumpstart them and help them out. Not sure If I am going to run out or not.

Good news is:
My pair are SPAWNING AGAIN!!!!! 10 days after last spawn and 2 days after last hatch!
16 days between 1st and 2nd, 11 days between 2nd and 3rd, now 10 days since last!!

Bad news is:
They are spawning on the same rock on the ceiling.
They were checking out the tile a bit. I should have moved it, but it is better to leave it where it is I think. I dont want it falling and hurting anything.

They are laying towards the front, so it is in 100% viewing area now.
51 minutes into it and I guess about 700 eggs so far.

I will update when they are finished.

This is exciting

I was going to say there a couple shops around where I live that might purchase some of your fish. But your all the way in Lancaster :worried2: Not exactly close to Pittsburgh like myself:frog:

Well if you are ever needing to get some of those off your hands lemme know:wavehand:

Best of luck though! Looking forward to the updates!

Thanks!

Pitts isnt too far away if we meet! lol
There is shipping too!! jk.

I am not at the stage yet, so to speak.
I am in still in the WOW stage. It is really amazing to see all this take place.

Well, it is a different story to feeding when you have 10 or 15 larvae verses ~150
I had to resort to my tigger pod bucket that has bshrimp, pods and rots in.
Funny thing is, a few pods went into the larvae tank and one of the 13 day olds put it in his mouth, spit is out a second later and then ate it again.

So I will actually put some pods in for them too.

I will get a better egg count tomorrow, as my MH lights go out 430pm now
I didnt have the chance to count after they were finished spawning.

Since I have the new batch in with the elders,
I found out that 2 day olds can eat NHBBS.

After putting in some nice portions, the 2 days old larvae bellies went from silver
to bulging pink in a matter of hours.

Obviously, I still will continue with the rotifers for a week or so.
Only about 50-70% of the new hatch have the pink belly.

For the third batch, I will have to decide to seperate the elders and move them
to their own tank and put the 2nd batch in with the third.
Or put the third in their own tank.

I will probably know in time, since the feeding for the elders will change in a week.

Thanks!

Haha. Yea it wouldn't be too bad of a drive.

The wife wants to get a pair of clownfish to for our new 37 gallon (2-3 weeks away from completing it's cycle ) But IDK if we could house the 100+ (*knock on wood*) it sounds like your gonna have.

Keep up the good work!

Update:

The elders have their 3rd stripe coming in.
The new spawn is around 700 eggs, and I am gonna be cut out for my work.
Gonna have to put the elders and the youngins in the 20gal and clean out the 10gal for
this batch.

I had some deaths in the new young ones, pretty much all from running out of rotifers.
I do not know what happened, but I think the rot batches didnt make it from
something, something that wiped them out.
I remember reading that rk had this problem, but they are not growing for me to harvest.

I am going to buy a new batch of rots and try again. They will be hatching soon.
There are about 75 young ones left from this last hatch. These are the ones eating NHBBS. THey were big enough to make it from only 2 days old.

Over the last 1-2 days, I only lost about 20, so I think this should be the height of the losses, hopefully. I lost a few today since I changed about 20% of the water.
I also dosed some amquel to see the effect, but changing some water was better.

THe bbs density is very high, which is nice everyone has a plump belly!!

Update:

It has been a while since I updated.

I still have the 11 oldest hatch.
They all have their 3 stripes well in.
Eating otohime B1 and bbs.

I just had the monster of a spawn hatch last night.
Out of the 600-800 eggs that made it to hatch night,
I caught about 200 and all are well.
My survival rates should be high with this batch since I know alot what to do and what not to do.

The 2nd hatch are doing well with about 75% with their 2nd stripe.
They are together withthe first 11 and I had to tranfer them last night to free up
the ten gallon for the new hatch.
Transfering did not go so well, as a few died but about 50-60 are still strong.
(I wanted to scoop them and get an accurate count but it didnt work.)
