My poor Toadstool.

One day, I'd like to make a post about how awesome my toadstool is doing, until then. I need some more help. :(

Since my last post, he's never stood up, but he's got cap-growth (Most of his old frag-wounds from previous owner are now covered in happy little polyps to match his top, and a few stick out from time to time.) So I know he's not dying yet, but, he's got what appears to be a rash.

He just went through a shed, successful! But this rash showed up shortly before the shed, and has just gotten bigger. Beside him on that side (Basically touching him there) are Zoanthids a whole colony. Is it them? I'm so willing to hack them away to save him.

Forgot to add, got my test kit and did tests today!
PH 8.3
Nitrite 0.1
Nitrate 5
Sitting at 79*F

Need anymore test results if I got it, it's been tested, let me know.

Update info; The spot is not squishy and it's textured the same as the rest of him. If it were on a human I'd have said sunburn, but it's in a spot on him that wouldn't really get as much light as his cap.
Also, some of his polyp/tentacles (Which ones correct?) are popping out a bit, not far but a bit so there's some hope! Hurray.

Personally( and I do this with all my coral ) I would take him out and separate the zoas from the branch. If it were mine I would say without a doubt the zoas were causing the trouble, but there might be something else ive never heard of causing the rash. My policy is to just remove any corals from areas they might get stung in.

I'd rather trash the zoa's. They sell cheap at my store, and this leather is beyond a doubt my favorite right now and I've never fragged before, so to be safer I'll see if I can separate the Zoa's, safely. Wasn't my choice to put the two so close together, that rock came from another persons reef that had to be torn down.

But for tonight at least I'll see if we get some seconds on that. :) Thank you Alb! (Also going down to the same store tomorrow to see about a cleaner shrimp and a fishy, so I'll ask them how they would pull those zoa's safely. See maybe if they'll show me hehe.)

Can anybody lead me in the direction of a link to how to remove a leather coral from a rock without killing it? -.-; The way the Zoas are it'll be darn near impossible to remove them, unless I just hack them in half, and wouldn't that risk everything on the rock?

Finally I can come back to a post and say hurray! Yesterday we went and bought a fish. One happy little Blue-Green Chromis. There was a tiny bit of Polyps out and about on the Toadstool.
Last night we checked on the fish a few hours after lights out, and he was sleeping in the Toadstool, right there on the cap happy as can be. Today? Double the polyps out, not far, but out. He's unfolded and big on the cap, very pink like he was before, and practically attempting to stand up, though I think that stupid rash is preventing it.

Aha! So, underneath him, sneaking up around his stalk is our Yellow Sponge coral... Anybody think between the Zoa's and Sponge he may be irritated? I just checked him all over and no soft spots, no other discoloration but that spot, still really stumped, but like I said, we have polyp extension, keeping optimistic. XD

Got a picture of the yellow sponge coral? If it is just a yellow sponge, it shouldnt cause any harm at all. It sounds like the toadstool is doing fine though.

No picture, but the guy we got that rock from said it will eventually grow into a ball... But I've seen no ball shape so far, it's just growing all around and in the rock (Almost doubled in size since we got the rock.) It was just a little bitty thing when we got it, but now I noticed it past my Zoa's under the coral, and that stupid red spot looks to be getting bigger, but still no squish so I'm content there.

Sounds like a yellow ball sponge, Ive never heard of it causing any trouble, I have a ton of it. I would say if the stalk is healthy and strong and your getting good polyp extension your good. My toadstool doesn't extend his all the time and will go a couple days just a cap, I think its just part of their natural cycle.

Yeah, just worried about his sulkiness and that stupid redness. Well. All I can do is wait and see. Thanks!

Aha! Finally got those stupid things touching my toadstool properly ID'd they're Protopalythoa (Or a Palythoa type, but leaning more to proto.) And every spot they've touched on the Softie has gone red red red. So I sealed up the orals and tomorrow we're chopping them off the block the best we can, and will seal up the area they were on with something. I'm sick of seeing my Toadstool like this. :(

Lesson learned not to bad

Like. Yeah, it'll turn out, the Cleaner shrimp have been pulling up the flakey red stuff since they got in, and so he's looking nicer, and now those pesky paly's are gone, he should straighten up and get better. Also getting Phyto-Feast tomorrow. :D

He's doing better every day! A lot of the red patch is gone, the cleaner shrimp is working to help that (It started flaking up, and the flesh underneath is whole and correct color!) He's responded to Phyto-Feast and has partially stood up a few times since the stupid evil things were removed. Yay! I can't wait to say he's perfect!

Awesome, glad you were able to get it back to healthy and safe again. They recover pretty well, toadstools can stand up pretty good to scissors, so a few palys shouldnt cause any long term damage.

I would also suggest playing with the flow and lighting, I personally don't think the zoas were bothering (maybe they were from your result) but I have zoas that are toaching both of my toadstools and they are beautiful.
