My Precious Blenny: DILEMMA

Zoos

Hey there I have a bit of a dilemma, I have a Golden Blenny (Atrosalarias fuscus, xanthic variant), he is a very rare little blenny and took me a couple of years to get my hands on him, he is currently in a mixed reef which contains some montiporas (caps & digis) and he has been a great citizen, but I am taking that tank down and setting up a large sps tank. I know most of you will not know much about this guy or probably never have seen or even heard of him, which is understandable because they aren't seen very often, but if anyone out there has one or knows anything about it, please share your experiences with me, I feel like he might be a threat due to the books claiming he may nip at sps corals, but what do the books know right? LoL well here is a picture of him as you can see he is the cutest little thing (and expensive too) my girlfriend has even named him "Pooh" because she says he looks like Winnie the Pooh, and he does. well LMK and thanks in advance

i have a female about 2 1/2 inches long...they tend to nip polyps...but will not cause any harm...what are ya feeding the little guy if i may ask

Absolutely nothing, they do not eat prepared foods, I know another person that has one and it is the same case also, but he always looks like he swallowed a marble, algae all day long

Are they that much different than other blennies? For instance different in behavior and diet than a bicolor blennie? They seem to share a lot of characteristics.

thanks but i had already seen that, and i was hoping for some one who has kept them with sps, since all the books claim they may nip at the corals.
thanks again
Felix

try feeding new life spectrum...small pellets i think the call them micro pellets..if not they should be fine grazing on you tanks algae..

Any chance you can set up a tank that will feature just this guy? He seems cool enough to me to be the feature.

There is some debate over the xanthic form of Salarias fuscus. Most references state the the "yellow" form is juvenile coloration and that it will change to black. I'm not sure that I agree; although they can and do change color.

I have two specimens in separate aquariums. One is bright yellow and has remained that way for 3 years. Another is yellow-brown and slightly larger. It too has not changed color in a few years; although it will occasionally appear almost black in color.

Both of these fish reside with SPS corals and do not bother them at all. I would characterize these fish as reasonably safe with SPS corals.

As for feeding, they do eat prepared foods and SHOULD be fed. Both of my fish eat frozen foods such as mysis and brine shrimp. If they're not fed, they may develop a taste for corals.

exactly my problem...when i first got them i couldnt get them to eat and they started picking at my polyps...but once i got them to eat new life spectrum i never had a problem again

I love that avitar zoos, that is killer. I tried to make an cool avitar but could not get photo shop to save it with a small enough file size. Could I ask how you did that?

Sorry, no info on your fish though, but I wish you luck.

Thanks,
Whiskey
