MY Prizm Pro kicks butt

i have the same skimmer and have no problems on a 58 gallon tank everyone seemes to hate these for some reason i think next time i take mine off to clean it i might try your mod thanks for sharing your idea

Hey salty. Sorry for the delay. My IP provider took a crap on me. Anyway I'm back up and running now. I started the cuts on the blades w/ a pair of diagonal pliers and slowly worked the cuts in 1/8" at a time. I used a utility knife for the last 1/4". Good luck.

great news!! however, i had another problem with my prizm pro and i was wondering if anyone else has this problem. After a day of running the prizm pro, the opening before the impeller and the intake air tube gets clogged by salt constantly. this causes no aire to flow in and hence the skimmer goes nuts and i get an spill.
does anyone know of a way to solve this issue before i junk this?

thanks

I never had that happen to me. I've never even heard of anyone w/ that problem. That leads me to believe that it is a problem isolated to your particular skimmer. I know I had to disconect the air tube when I did my mods and noticed that it is just 1/4" air tubing. Perhaps you have a pin hole in yours that is allowing a minute amount of water in that is evaporating quickly because of the air rushing past it. Take out the tube and inspect. Just an educated guess though.

Could you tell me what brand and type sponge you bought, so I could use the same. Were can you buy the air valve? HD, lowes I guess.

I don't know the name of the scrubby pad. I will say this --I bought it at Wal-Mart for 96cents. It is a coarse scrub pad for cleaning floors and large areas. It has a plastic handle on it and measure 4x6 inches. The air valve is the standard air valve you can pick up at any pet store for 50cents or Wal-Mart if you're already there. Its for airline tubing from air pumps for air stones and such. You'll have to filet the scrub pad down to the desired width. Also I cut a hole in the center of a larger piece than I needed. I attached the large piece to the impeller, and then used a sharp utility knife to trim the excess. It makes for a nicer result.

The hardware store won't have them. Check your lfs where the air tubing is. Alot of times they are mixed in w/ a pack of other air fittings and are hanging on the wall. If all else fails ask someone.

Ok, thanks. I'm going out today to see if I can find the stuff. Hope to wirte back soon to let you know how it turns out.

You wonder why the wizards at Redsea Pharm. wouldnt know how to unlesh the full potential of their product.

Right. For the price you can get these for, and if they do as good as css220 people would buy more exspecialy for the compact size.

OK I found the stuff and did the mods. So far it seem to be producing a little more bubbles and its not foaming yet could be just cause I cleaned it so I'll let it run for a week and see how it dose, however, I did not cut the blades down my impellar is different than your and everything fit in just fine and is running fine. I also added the airvalve but I dont think it is nessesary it still sounds about the same on mine. I think these mods might only be for the pro model and not the deluxe. Well we'll see, I'll write back in a few days with a update.

My main concern w/ the Prizm pro was the air adjustment. If I had it to do over again I would have done just the air valve mod first and saw what difference it made before I did the mesh mod. Like I said w/ the mesh mod it pulls more air than the pump can handle and has to be choked back pretty far. I think the only bonus of the mesh mod on this is that it may chop the bubbles up finer than the standard venturi type that is stock on these.

Well I have not had to mess with the airvale its wide open. I also had to redo the mesh mod because I didnt tie it down good enough and it came lose and started to make noise, however since I redid it it is foaming and foaming about 3 times more with a dry foam so far so good I also shaved the blades down a very little bit. I do like it so far, it seems to improve the performance by more than double. In the next week I'll update with the end result. My only concern is the mesh mod coming loose again. I tied four knots each and tied about 8 of the blades. If it continuse like this I would recomend it to everybody with a prizim. Thank for the info for this mod.

Hey Salty, if you have another problem try zip tying it to the impeller w/ the smallest zip ties you can find and just make sure the locking mechanism won't wack anything while its running.

If I have another prob I will try it. Still running good though. The riser tube in the collection cup is covered for the first time in foam, and the skimmate looks like it got more gunk in it so far. Very happy, thanks again.

Oh ya, after doing this, I think I'm going to mesh mod my pump for my sea junk skimmer, along with the mods on the diy page off of the home page and see how that turns out.
